"C'est pourquoi j'ai écrit à tous les Etats Membres pour leur demander d'accélérer et d'anticiper aussi vite que possible l'application de la nouvelle législation de l'UE", a-t-elle expliqué.[02] David Byrne welcomes Parliament vote on safer rules for feed additives - prohibition of antibiotics as growth promoters confirmedDavid Byrne, the European Commissioner responsible for Health and Consumer Protection, yesterday welcomed the European Parliament's adoption of the Keppelhoff-Wiechert report on additives for use in animal nutrition. He hailed Parliament's vote as being an important step forward in the European Union's drive to phase out antibiotics and other potentially harmful substances in animal feed. Strengthening rules on the safety of animal feed is one of the cornerstones of the EU's food safety strategy. Banning the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in feed is also vital to efforts to combat anti-microbial resistance (the phenomenon of antibiotic resistant "super bugs"). The Council of Ministers is expected to respond rapidly to Parliament's First Reading and may agree a Common Position on the Regulation as early as the 16-19 December Agriculture Council.[03] Erkki Liikanen calls for more coherence in European aerospace policy during Airbus visit(! embargo 3 pm !) Today, European Enterprise Commissioner Erkki Liikanen visited Europe's biggest civil aircraft manufacturer, Airbus (Toulouse, France). This visit takes place at a time when the European Union has set itself ambitious targets for economic competitiveness for its aerospace industry, as evidenced by STAR 21 (Strategic aerospace review for the 21st Century) - a recent report of a high level advisory group chaired by the Commissioner. The visit is part of a broad dialogue that Mr Liikanen is pursuing with all interested parties in the follow up to STAR 21. STAR 21 identified a need for European initiatives covering trade, the operating environment, governance of civil aviation, defence and space in order to sustain industry's competitiveness. Erkki Liikanen and Airbus CEO Noel Forgeard reviewed progress on new programmes such as the A380, which will be the world's largest passenger aircraft when it enters service in 2006. The humanitarian aid funds, which are being used to provide food aid for internally displaced people, are being channelled through the Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO). The civil and political rights project will be financed through the Europe-Aid Cooperation office of the Commission.[06] Pascal Lamy welcomes launch of European Sustainable Trade and Innovation CentreEuropean Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy yesterday welcomed the launch of a Sustainable Trade and Innovation Centre (STIC), intended to help developing countries export sustainable products, thus building in environmental and social factors into their export strategy. STIC will act as a platform bringing together stakeholders from North and South to create a more co- operative context for sustainable trade and innovation. Speaking at the launch the European hub of the project, Mr Lamy said : "This is a clear deliverable on the commitments adopted in Johannesburg in August. Initiatives such as Sustainable Trade and Innovation Centres, bringing together private and public partners, are key to encourage trade in sustainable products, including fair trade, ethical trade and organic trade."[07] Annuaire statistique des régions 2002 : un outil pour analyser les disparités régionales ; des données sur 266 régions de l'UE et des pays candidatsEurostat publie aujourd'hui l'édition 2002 de l'annuaire statistique des régions de l'UE.
