[01] Neil Kinnock supports increasing integration of disabled people in the
Commission
Speaking on the European Day of Disabled People, European Commission Vice-
President Neil Kinnock said : "The Commission's work in favour of people
with disabilities begins right here in our own Institution. We have already
made significant steps towards improving access and integration for
disabled members of staff but we still have some way to go. On European Day
of Disabled People, I reaffirm our strong and practical commitment to
gaining the full integration of our disabled colleagues and ensuring good
access for them and the general public. To me, achieving the best standards
of opportunity, treatment and access is a requirement of basic civil
rights."
[02] La Commission ouvre une procédure d'examen concernant les exportations
de produits textiles et d'habillement vers l'Argentine
A la suite d'une plainte déposée par Euratex, une association qui
représente les associations nationales de l'industrie des produits textiles
et d'habillement au niveau européen, la Commission européenne a décidé
d'ouvrir une enquête conformément au règlement sur les obstacles au
commerce (ROC). La procédure ROC, qui constitue un instrument important de
la stratégie communautaire d'accès aux marchés, permet d'enquêter sur des
allégations de violation des obligations commerciales internationales et
peut déboucher sur une procédure internationale de règlement des
différends.
[03] Energy for Democracy : delayed trucks to return to Macedonia,
programme will continue
14 lorries with 350 tonnes of fuel for the Serbian cities of Nis and Pirot
have been held up since 24 November by the Federal Yugoslav authorities.
They are carrying badly needed heating oil for these opposition controlled
cities of Nis and Pirot. The Federal authorities have devised obstacle
after obstacle to prevent this oil shipment reaching its destination. The
citizens of Nis and Pirot know who is responsible for this situation. There
have been demonstrations against these delays. During the whole period, the
drivers of the trucks have now endured 9 days waiting with their trucks at
the border post, unable to leave. This situtuation has become intolerable,
and the drivers will therefore return today with their lorries to Skopje.
But the programme will continue. Further deliveries are under preparation.
