  • [01] Commission clears Pakhoed / Van Ommeren merger following spin-off of storage terminals

The European Commission has cleared a merger between the Dutch companies Koninklijke Pakhoed NV and Koninklijke Van Ommeren NV following the undertakings of the merging firms to divest part of their liquids storage terminals in Rotterdam and Antwerp. A merger proposal between the two companies had already been notified to the Commission one and a half year ago, but at that time the divestment proposals were not sufficient to remove the competition problems that had been identified. The merger was eventually called off. As a result of the current divestment proposals, the competitive overlaps in the storage markets in the ARA area (Antwerp- Rotterdam-Amsterdam) will be removed and the possible competition concerns will be eliminated.
