[01] La Commission vient d'approuver la création de Scandairy K/S, une
entreprise commune entre Arla ekonomisk förening et MD Foods amba
La Commission européenne vient d'approuver la création de Scandairy K/S,
une entreprise commune dans le secteur laitier entre la coopérative
laitière suédoise Arla ekonomisk förening et la coopérative laitière
danoise MD Foods amba. Suite à de sérieux doutes exprimés par la Commission
quant à la compatibilité de la filiale commune avec les règles de
concurrence, les parties ont décidé de restreindre son champ d'activités.
Suite à ces changements, qui limitent la coopération à un nouveau secteur
alimentaire dont le développement rapide requiert de grands investissements
dans la recherche et le développement, la Commission considère que les
préoccupations actuelles ont été dissipées bien que la coopération devra
être réexaminée après une période initiale de 7 ans.
[02] EU presses US to change Telecoms rules
The European Commission has warned the United States today that it risks
violating its world trading obligations by the manner in which it is
planning to incorporate a recent global agreement on telecoms services into
US law. The EU is concerned that draft US rules implementing the WTO Basic
Telecoms deal reached last February would breach WTO rules by maintaining
the right to deny telecoms licences on ill-defined 'public interest' and
other grounds. The EU is urging the US to reconsider the draft rules.
Otherwise the EU reserves its right to challenge those rules under the
WTO.
[03] Economic sentiment at record level
In July 1997 the industrial and consumer confidence increased significantly
leading the economic sentiment indicator at its highest level of the last 7
years, the monthly Business and Consumer Surveys of the European Commission
report. The overall improvement in the monthly results of industry was
confirmed by the better results for the inflow of the new orders and for
capacity utilization (81.8% in July, according to preliminary figures).
Consumer confidence improved for the second consecutive month. Consumers'
willingness to buy durables has increased following a better outlook for
growth and unemployment.
