  • [01] Commission approves the merger between Lucas and Varity

    The European Commission has approved an operation by which the companies Lucas Industries plc, Solihull/UK ("Lucas"), and Varity Corporation, Buffalo, New York/USA ("Varity"), will enter into a full merger. Under the terms of the merger a new UK holding company, to be known as LucasVarity plc, will be created. The Lucas shareholders will own about 62% and the Varity shareholders about 38% of the new merged business.

    [02] Convention de Lomé - La Commission finance un programme de réhabilitation en Somalie (47 millions d'Ecus)

    La Commission européenne vient de décider, dans le cadre du Fonds Européen de Développement, instrument financier de la Convention de Lomé, un financement de 47 millions d'Ecus en faveur de la Somalie pour un programme de réhabilitation dans les régions où règnent actuellement la paix et une stabilité politique relative. Le programme vise un appui aux secteurs productifs, aux secteurs sociaux, aux infrastructures, aux petites et moyennes entreprises et à la création d'institutions.

    [03] Nicaragua: Commission approves medical aid package worth ECU 1.5 million

    The European Commission has approved a package of medical aid worth ECU 1.5 million for Nicaragua. The aid, channelled via the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), will enable non-governmental organisations from Spain and Italy to carry out a programme of medical aid over the next six months.
