    DUBLIN - The opposition Fianna Fail/PD alliance fell two seats short of winning a majority in parliament, according to final results of the poll.

    LUXEMBOURG - European Union finance ministers, meeting after a turbulent fortnight that has thrown the future of the EU's single currency into doubt, on Sunday dismissed any talk of delaying the project.

    BRUSSELS - A fresh bid will be made this month to tighten controls on mad cow disease by banning risky cattle tissues, a European Commission spokesman said on Friday.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission on Friday approved the release of two herbicide resistant genetically modified rapeseed varieties, EU Commission officials said.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission, preparing for fully liberalised telecoms markets next year, put forward a proposal on Friday designed to make it easier to bring new terminal equipment into the fast-growing market.

    [06] Deal on part-time work

    BRUSSELS - European Union officials, labour and employers groups on Friday formally endorsed a deal on rules to guarantee rights to part-time workers, which was initialled by representatives of workers and employers on May 14.

    FRANKFURT - Germany's SGL Carbon AG , being probed by U.S. and European Union officials on allegations of price-fixing, on Friday denied it was part of a cartel and said authorities had made no concrete charges.

    LUXEMBOURG - EU finance ministers meet (0700 GMT); discussions focus on European Monetary Union. Annual meeting with the European Investment Bank in the evening.

    LUXEMBOURG - Signature of the mutual assistance customs protocol between Switzerland and the EU (0900 GMT).

    STRASBOURG - European Parliament holds plenary session (1500 GMT) (first of five days); discussions focus on television broadcasting activities; public health.

    STRASBOURG - European Commissioner Papoutsis attends European Parliament Research Committee meeting.
