THE HAGUE - Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok said on Friday the Dutch would decide
in early May, after the British general elections, whether an extra EU summit
will be held in Maastricht in May.

BRUSSSELS - The European Commission said on Friday it had struck a deal with
the United States settling their trade dispute over the U.S. anti-Cuba Helms
Burton Act.

WASHINGTON - EU officials trying to settle a fight with the United States over
meat imports left Washington Friday afternoon with no accord in hand, but the
two sides said they would stay in contact over the weekend.

STRASBOURG - The European Parliament is to set up a special committee to
monitor whether the European Commission is following up its recommendations
for improving the handling of the mad cow crisis.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Friday it had struck a deal with
Belgian telephone company Belgacom in a dispute over prices that it charges
telephone directory publishers for information about its subscribers.

BRUSSELS - Agreement is within reach next week on controversial plans for
sharp cuts in fish catches over the next three years to protect endangered
stocks, European Union officials and diplomats said on Friday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission is set to clear on Wednesday the final, 1.0-
billion-franc tranche of aid to Air France, a senior official told Reuters on
Friday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission is due on Wednesday to clear the final 40-
billion-escudo tranche of government aid to TAP Air Portugal, a senior
Commission official told Reuters on Friday.

VALLETTA - Keeping a wary eye on the Middle East, European Union and Arab
countries meet in Malta on Tuesday along with Israel and old foes Greece and
Turkey to try to cement an EU-Mediterranean regional partnership.

DUBAI - Iran and Europe are unlikely to allow a row over a German court ruling
that Tehran ordered political killings in Berlin in 1992 to go beyond
