    BRUSSELS - The European Union was gearing up for another trade battle with the United States on Wednesday after Washington moved a step towards widening its laws against foreign companies doing business with "enemy" nations.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Wednesday it had approved the payment of five billion francs in state aid to Air France, the third and final tranche of a 20-billion-franc rescue package.

    BRUSSELS - EU Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock said on Wednesday he saw no conflict in Britain and the European Commission both probing the competition effects of the alliance between British Airways and American Airlines.
