    BRUSSELS - The European Commission does not expect next week's farm Council to agree to lift the British beef export ban, Farm Commissioner Franz Fischler told Scottish farmers leaders on Thursday.

    [02] Court rules on Wallonia buses

    LUXEMBOURG - The European Court of Justice ruled on Thursday that Belgium failed to follow Community rules for awarding public contracts when it awarded a contract for 307 buses for the Wallonia Transport Company.

    BRUSSELS - The Wallonia regional government said on Thursday its transport authority would issue a new tender for around 300 buses following a ruling against it in the European Court of Justice on Thursday.

    BOLOGNA, Italy - All European Union states expressed willingness on Thursday to consider improving their offer to open telecommunications markets in world trade talks that are due to wind up next Tuesday, EU officials said.

    BOLOGNA, Italy - European Union states have agreed to explore the best way to regulate the Internet in areas such as protection of minors, privacy and criminal activity, Italian Telecommunications Minister Agostino Gambino said on Thursday.

    BRUSSELS - The European Parliament's economic affairs committee has joined the debate on liberalising the phone directories market, saying on Thursday that dominant operators must not withold information from directory publishers.

    BRUSSELS - African, Caribbean and Pacific sugar ministers will review market developments at a meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from April 28 to May 2, the Brussels-based ACP secretariat said in a statement on Thursday.
