[01] Reactions in the occupied area of Cyprus to the terror attack in London

The majority of the Turkish Cypriot newspapers today (23.03.17) covers the issue on their front page. Under the title "Terror attack in London", daily Kibris newspaper reports that four persons died and 20 were injured as a result of the attack.

Daily Afrika newspaper reports that after the attacks in London all eyes were turned to Turkey. The "Independent" newspaper considered Turkey responsible and accused it of the attack, notes "Afrika" adding that the British paper said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened the safety of the European citizens. Afrika writes that the social media were full with comments considering Erdogan as "instigator" of the attacks and recalling Erdogan's statement that the Europeans will not be able to go out in the street in their own countries. Afrika further notes that some members of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) commented on the attacks on the social media saying: "Aha it happened. Did you see? Has the President not warned you?"

[02] Turkey condemns London terror attacks

"Solely associating terrorism with Muslim countries is the gravest mistake. Terrorism is a global catastrophe," said Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, adding that all countries should unite on the issue of terrorism and fight it together, while also urging against double standards on the issue.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also condemned the incidents on his official Twitter account. "We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks in London that took place in the Westminster area where Parliament is located. Turkey and the Turkish people, who have been subjected to similar attacks many times, share the sorrow of Britain and the British people," Cavusoglu wrote.

EU Minister Omer Celik also condemned the attacks. "Terrorism is a threat to all countries. An all-out fight should be waged against terrorism without making any distinction between terror organizations," Celik wrote on his official Twitter account.

The Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack on its official Twitter account, saying: "This heinous attack demonstrated once again the brutal and merciless nature of terrorism that targets the lives of innocent people".

Stressing that Turkey will maintain its solidarity with the international community and its allies against all kinds of terrorism and violence, it added, "Our country will continue to provide all kinds of support to the U.K. in the fight against terrorism," it added.

[03] Erdogan warns Europe: "Turkey won't be pushed around"

"If you continue to behave like this, tomorrow in no part of the world, no European, no Westerner will be able to take steps on the street safely and peacefully," Erdogan said during a speech in Ankara.

Erdogan did not expand on what he meant by his comments but appeared to imply that Europeans risked receiving the same treatment that, he says, is endured by Turks and Muslims in Europe.

"Turkey is not a country whose Ministers can be kicked out, and whose citizens can be kicked around," Erdogan said at a meeting with members of the Anatolian Publishers Association at the presidential palace in Ankara.

The President's remarks came amid ongoing tensions with several European countries over their refusal to allow Turkish Ministers to hold public rallies ahead of Turkey's April 16 referendum.

"As Turkey, we invite the European countries to respect democracy, human rights and freedoms. It should be remembered that Europeans in particular need these values as much as we do", Erdogan said.

He also criticized again German Chancellor Angela Merkel over her remarks of solidarity with the Netherlands, a country Erdogan said "closed its door to Turkish Ministers," and "let its dogs loose on my [Turkish] citizens".

"So, you say you are standing by the Netherlands. Fine. Then I am standing by my people and God," Erdogan stated.

[04] Talat: The decision to set aside the 1950 plebiscite decision is a positive outcome for the launching of the negotiations

Talat stated that this development is enough for the negotiations to be launched again and added that an apology should not be expected by the Greek Cypriot side on the subject. As Talat said, the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has said that an apology should be issued and that this was a condition for the re-starting of the negotiations.

Reporting on the same issue, Afrika (23.03.17) writes that the new decision of the Cyprus House of Representatives consists "a new step for the negotiations". Kibris reports on the issue under the title: "Efforts to make Akinci to return to the negotiation table". Finally, Havadis reports on the same issue under the title: "Return to reason".

[05] The occupation regime's "cabinet" continues granting "citizenship"

The "council of ministers" considered granting the "citizenship" to 25 of the above-mentioned persons as "obligatory". Five persons were granted the "citizenship" because they invested in the fields of industry, trade, tourism, society and economy or have offered and/or could offer "exceptional services" to the "TRNC" in the fields of science, technology, politics or culture. The paper publishes the names of the "new citizens".

[06] Turkish Cypriot daily says that the so-called immovable Property Commission failed

"The adventure of the Property Compensation Commission, which started in 2006, has come to the point to stop because of various reasons", notes the paper adding that "even though the Commission is legally still there, the Greek Cypriots do not apply and the applications are not completed because of the lack of financial support".

Pointing out to the "serious decrease" in the Greek Cypriot applications to the "Commission", the paper reports that while 1926 Greek Cypriots had applied to the "Commission" in 2011, this number decreased to 49 in 2016 and 8 in the first three months of 2017.

Since 2006 the "Commission" paid 231,447,174 pound sterling to Greek Cypriots. The payment of 231,000,000 pounds concern land of 28,193,825 square meters.

[07] Berova attended the EURIE2017 summit in Istanbul

Speaking during that "Eurasia Highter Education Summit-EURIE 2017" which took place in Istanbul, Berova alleged that as a result of the correct steps they have taken, they achieved to turn the "TRNC" to an island of education, where there are totally 93 thousand students from 140 foreign countries.

Claiming that with the support of Turkey they achieved to go beyond the "embargoes in higher education", Berova added that the graduate students from the "TRNC universities" have a lot of employment opportunities in their own countries.

[08] YDP announced the preparation of "Great Mesaoria project" which aims at the development of occupied Mesaoria area

According to the paper, a delegation of the party visited the other day the occupied village of Vadili and briefed the "people" about the "project".

In statements on the issue, Arikli explained that within the framework of the implementation of the "project" they are planning to increase the prosperity of Mesaoria area during the next three years. Particularly, they will be focused in the fields of "agriculture-stock farming, the universities and housing development".

Arikli also stated that among their plans is the establishment of "Mesaoria university", which will be granting scholarships to students that will be interested in studying there. He further added that in cooperation with the Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKI), they prepared a project for giving residences to young couples with low interest loans.

[09] Turkish government asked the US to be out of flight ban list

Turkish Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan said that he had penned a letter to his U.S. counterpart, requesting that Turkey's biggest airport, Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, be taken off the list of hubs which are subject to the U.S. electronics ban.

"I have sent a letter to my counterpart in the U.S., which took an electronic devices decision regarding Turkey," he said on March 22.

Arslan said he would also send a letter to his counterpart in the U.K. that took a similar decision to the one the U.S. took just hours after the latter's announcement.

Passengers flying directly to Britain from six countries ? Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia ? will be required to place laptops and tablet computers and large phones into hold luggage, a government spokesman said on March 21, according to AFP.

[10] Turkey to open its largest military base in the world in Somalia

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Chief of General Staff General Hulusi Akar are expected to attend the official opening.

Somalia's Defense Minister, General Abdulkadir Ali Dini, visited the military base yesterday with a military delegation.

(?)The construction of the $50 million base began in March 2015. It will have the capacity to train 500 soldiers at the same time.

The facility is located close to Mogadishu's airport and three kilometers (1.8 miles) from Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital and the Port of Mogadishu.

The base will occupy 400 hectares and house three military schools, dormitories and depots.

Somalia and Turkey share multi-tiered cooperation. Turkey provides Somalia with military aid, education support, infrastructural development and skills training.

[11] Turkey and Kuwait signed six deals during Emir's visit to Ankara

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah paid an official visit to Ankara on March 21 and March 22, during which he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m.

While three of the agreements signed during the Emir's visit were about Kuwait's financial aids to three municipalities located in Turkey's southeast - Kilis, Sanl?urfa, Gaziantep ? the other three deals cover cooperation on military, Islamic and tourism issues.

Turkey hosts more than three million migrants, most of them from Syria, which makes the provinces bordering Syria the most populated and open to aid.

Turkey and Kuwait, with a memorandum of understanding on religious affairs, have decided to cooperate on the issues of communicating Islam in various forms. For this goal, the two countries will publish material, prepare programs, seminars and conferences, while also engage in exchanging information and experience.

"Both of the sides will mutually engage in sharing information and experience on the fight against violence prone movements, terror and infidel acts that threaten the Islamic societies' security and stability," said a part of the deal between the two countries, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

The two states will also cooperate on guiding and warning young people who have been affected by violence prone acts.

Following the signing of the deals, the Kuwaiti Emir was honored by Turkey's Order of the State by Erdogan on March 22.

[12] Turkey summons Norway's Envoy over granting asylum to NATO soldiers, military attache

"It is saddening and unacceptable to see an allied country supporting the efforts of individuals who were recalled from their state duty and who abused the political, social, and economic resources of their country of residence instead of returning to Turkey," according to spokesperson Huseyin Mutfuoglu.

The asylum-seekers include a former military attache and four military officers who worked at a NATO education center in Norway.

(?) Along with the soldiers and the military attache, Oslo also accepted the asylum applications of their family members. They have reportedly been residing in a secret address in the country.
