[A] TURKISH CYPRIOT / TURKISH PRESS[01] Cicek: Turkey's stance on Cyprus does not change regardless of who rules in AnkaraUnder the title "'The stance does not change", Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar newspaper (28.08.12) reports that Cemil Cicek, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) has said that Turkey's stance on Cyprus does not change regardless of who rules in Ankara. In statements yesterday to correspondents of newspapers and news agencies in Ankara, Cicek referred to the Cyprus problem and said: "The Cyprus problem is Turkey's national problem. Governments change, governments with different views come, but the stance of the country does not change".Cicek went on and said that the issue of "terror", as he described the struggle with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), is also a national problem for Turkey. Noting that "terror" is the "most important agenda" for Turkey, Cicek added that there are moments when their patience is exhausted, but in spite of this they should realize that this is an issue which they should see in a cool manner. He noted that this is an issue that goes beyond parties and governments and added: "The issue of struggling with terror is not a seasonal struggle. That is, it is not a struggle, which will be forgotten after we concentrate on certain saddening incidents, certain murders in the months of summer, it is not an issue which will stop being on the agenda after a 3-5 month struggle". [02] Bozer met with the "leader" of the "Crimean Tatar National Assembly"According to Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (28.08.12), the "speaker" of the so-called assembly Hasan Bozer met yesterday with the "leader" of the "Crimean Tatar National Assembly" Mustafa Kirimoglu who is illegally visiting the occupied area of Cyprus.Speaking during the meeting, Bozer characterized Kirimoglu as an important and historical personality for his continuing struggle for his people's interest. Speaking in his turn, Kirimoglu said that they want Crimea to have strong ties with the "TRNC" and added that the problems experienced in the "TRNC" are similar with the problems that Crimea is experienced. Referring to the Crimean students in the "TRNC", he said that they expect the number of students from Crimea who study to the "TRNC" to be increased. Saying that he will be visiting Cyprus in any occasion, Kirimoglu reminded of Bozer's meeting in Crimea in the past and invited him to visit Crimea soon. (AK ) [03] Efforts to present Asil Nadir as "Turkish national hero" continueTurkish Cypriot daily Volkan newspaper (28.08.12) reports that according to Turkish daily Takvim newspaper, the problems of convicted of theft businessman Asil Nadir with the British state started after he refused to succeed late Rauf Denktas to the so-called "presidency of the TRNC". Citing information acquired by a close associate of Nadir, the paper writes that one day, the USA ambassador to London visited Nadir at his office accompanied by "an important person from the British government" and asked him to become "president in Cyprus". "You will substitute that fatso (late Rauf Denktas). Our interests and plans in the island require this", the ambassador reportedly said. Asil Nadir refused the offer and raised his voiced saying for Rauf Denktas: "He is my best friend. He has helped me a lot. You ask from me something that I could never do". According to the paper, the collapse of Nadir had started that day.Meanwhile, writing in his daily column in Asil Nadir's Kibris newspaper (28.08.12), Resat Akar, KIBRIS Media Group's general director, refers to Nadir's "courage" and argues that during one of the most critical periods of the Cyprus problem, Nelson Ledsky, the then Special Representative of the USA State Department for Cyprus, visited Nadir and told him that "either you become president in the place of Denktas or withdraw". According to Akar, Nadir rejected this proposal without hesitation. Akar argues, inter alia, the following: "He neither accepted to overturn Denktas nor to withdraw from Cyprus. According to some, this act was more than courageous, it was madness. To the extent that it would lead both himself and his companies to bankruptcy". Moreover, Kibris reports that messages of support and solidarity with Nadir continue to come from politicians, "institutions", organizations and "citizens". Ahmet Kasif, self-styled minister of health and candidate for the presidency of the "ruling" National Unity Party (UBP), visited KIBRIS Media Group yesterday and expressed the belief that Nadir will win the appeal. He argued that they could not remain silent to "the attacks especially made by the Greek Cypriots" in order to lead Nadir to collapse. Hamza Ersan Saner, self-styled minister of public works and transport, said that they could never forget the services of Asil Nadir. Cemal Bulutoglulari, "mayor" of the occupied part of Lefkosia, described Nadir as "great fighter who tried for the happiness and prosperity of the people". Huseyin Barbet, chairman of the heads of the villages' union, alleged that the only crime of Asil Nadir was being a Turk. Messages were also sent by the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the TMT "fighters'" association, and Kamu-Sen trade union.
