[01] Ozgurgun: OIC will organize a meeting next year in the occupied area of Cyprus; Plans to increase the regime's representation offices abroad

Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (23.07.12) reports that Huseyin Ozgurgun, self-styled minister of foreign affairs of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of Cyprus, has announced that within the first months of the next year, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states will organize a meeting with large participation in the occupied area of Cyprus on the issue of water and agriculture. In statements to illegal Bayrak, Ozgurgun referred to the importance of the 1974 Turkish invasion, the Cyprus problem, the work of his "ministry" and the internal developments in the National Unity Party (UBP).

Ozgurgun said that during the past few years the number of the "representation offices" of the regime abroad, exceeded twenty and added that they are trying to create the infrastructure of the "offices" with their limited financial resources. Noting that the "ministry of finance" should increase the budget for the "representation offices", Ozgurgun said that they are considering of opening "representation offices" in Norway, Denmark, Africa and Saudi Arabia.

Ozgurgun alleged that the Greek Cypriot side cannot see that a solution on the island will bring economic development and prosperity to both sides, and argued that the general picture now is that problems deriving from the non-solution exist on the island, but the "TRNC", breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, "exists as a reality" and 1974 was its starting point.

Responding to a question regarding the EU term presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, Ozgurgun argued that the UN Secretary ? General had been referring to an "end game" in Cyprus, saying that "the solution will be far away if no solution is found by 1 July". Ozgurgun argued that efforts are exerted for the creation of the image that a new page will be opened with the presidential elections in the Republic of Cyprus. "However", he added, "the Turkish Cypriot people are used to such statements".

Ozgurgun alleged that the UN Security Council is in favour of the continuation of the existing status quo in Cyprus and added: "Negotiations have been going on for 44 years. They were brought onto the agenda of the UN in the 1950's. What will you resume?"

He alleged that two out of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Russia and China, openly support the Greek Cypriots and that Ban Ki-moon is staff of the Security Council. "That is, what he says can somehow not happen without their approval", he claimed arguing that it seems that this approval will not come. "Given that it has been shown that they have no complain from the continuation of the situation which exists today, it would be wrong to expect from the UN a decision which will spoil the situation which exists today", he alleged, claiming that the EU, as well, is in favour of the existing situation in Cyprus.

Ozgurgun described as a "turning point" a recent decision by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to approve the exchange of property of a Greek Cypriot refugee with a Turkish Cypriot property in the government-controlled area of the island, according to an earlier decision taken by the "Property Compensation Commission" set up by Turkey in the occupied area of Cyprus. He argued that everybody in the government-controlled area of the island will know that the "Commission" has been turned into an internationally accepted commission and that the property issue is not an obstacle in front of the solution of the Cyprus problem, as the Greek Cypriot side has been arguing for years. He alleged: "What is unsolved is the political problem. We want a just agreement. Political will is necessary for this. ? The property issue is not in the essence of the Cyprus problem. The Cyprus problem is completely a problem of political relations".

Ozgurgun argued that there could be no new acceleration in the Cyprus problem before March-April 2013 and alleged that the Greek Cypriot side should cooperate with them in order for facilitating the life between the "two peoples".

[02] Atalay to CTP: If you want to become "government" implement the economic package and forget the solution of the Cyprus problem

Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (23.07.12) reports that during his recent illegal visit to the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, Besir Atalay, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, met with Ozkan Yorgancioglu and Asim Akansoy, chairman and general secretary of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP). According to the paper, Atalay told the CTP officials that if they want to become "government" in the occupied area of Cyprus, they should first implement the economic package [imposed by Turkey] and then to forget the solution [of the Cyprus problem].

The paper writes that Atalay called the two CTP officials to the "embassy" of Turkey in the occupied part of Lefkosia, but in the end the meeting was held at Merit Hotel upon a request by Yorgancioglu and Akansoy.

According to Afrika, Yorgancioglu and Akansoy have not informed CTP's "central administrative committee" and the "party council" regarding the conditions put forward by Atalay. Unrest has reportedly been created in the CTP after the secret details of the meeting came to light.

[03] Atun stated that in two months the drilling works at occupied Syngrasi village will be concluded

Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar newspaper (22.07.12) reported that the so-called minister of economy and energy, Sunat Atun in statements to Cihan news agency, referred to the drilling works at occupied Syngrasi village and said that these are expected to be concluded in two months.

Saying that the land drilling works have reached to the 2.300 meters so far, he added that the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) is expected to announce the results of the conclusion of the drilling works in two months, after reaching to 3.000 meters.

According to the results, TPAO, if it considers it necessary, either it will launch the second round of drillings in the area of Morfou, or it will transfer its works to the sea, writes the paper.

Atun stated further that they need two more months in order for the drilling works to be clarified and added: "At the end of this process, the underground geological characteristic will be obtained. If there is a natural gas, then it will be reached, if not, then it is necessary to be decided in which point the drillings works will continue".

Pointing out the importance of obtaining the territorial seismic map of the entire "TRNC", Atun said that this is their primary goal and added they will be able to obtain the territorial seismic map of the "TRNC" with the gravity method in every 500 meters in the land. He further said that the necessary procedures for the implementation of the works are at the final stage.

As regards the drillings works to be launched in occupied Morfou, Atun said that they will decide for the second round of the drilling works as soon as the seismic maps will be determined.

Referring to the efforts exerted by "south Cyprus", as he called the Republic of Cyprus which exerted efforts through the UN to suspend the "TRNC's works", Atun said that "south Cyprus efforts" did not had any concrete result until now, either they will have, as he said.

Moreover, under the title: "Second drilling in Cyprus", Turkish daily Sabah newspaper (22.07.12) reports that the Turkish Anonymous Petroleum Company (TPAO) is preparing for a second round of drilling in occupied Cyprus.

According to the paper, the second drilling is to be launched by the company after the seismic researches in occupied Morfou, where the company received a license.

The paper underlines that despite of the escalating tension in the Eastern Mediterranean and the fact that "Cyprus south" overtook the EU term Presidency, TPAO's oil research works could not be halted.

We have achieved results regarding the visa issue that could not be reached in the past 15 years, he stated.

EU member countries unanimously authorized the European Commission to begin talks with Turkey for visa-free travels by Turkish citizens, Bagis stated.

"At this point, the citizens of the Republic of Turkey are the only ones, among the citizens of other candidate countries, who have to apply for visas to visit the Schengen region," Bagis stressed.

"Visa regulations are one of the bricks on the wall between Turkey and the EU. We need to bring down that brick and do away with the wall," Bagis also said.
