[01] Eroglu evaluates the decision of the Council of Ministers on Tymvios case

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (12.07.12) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu evaluated yesterday the recent decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus to accept the decision taken by the "Property Compensation Commission", set up by Turkey in the occupied area of Cyprus, on the case of a Greek Cypriot refugee named Mike Tymvios, who had agreed with the "Commission" to exchange his property in the occupied area of Cyprus with a Turkish Cypriot property in the government-controlled area of the island.

Responding to a question during a meeting with Cukorova Journalists' Union, Eroglu argued that this decision of the Council of Ministers "derived from necessity". He alleged that the Council of Ministers approved the decision of the "Commission" because it knew that it would lose the case, if the issue had been taken to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Eroglu argued that the "Property Compensation Commission" was established after a decision by the ECHR and claimed that the recent developments show that the "Commission" is legal and the decisions it takes are valid. He said that the decision of the Council of Ministers could bring a development on the property issue.

Referring to the Cyprus problem, Eroglu alleged that those who started the incidents in the island became members of the European Union and the victims are under "isolation". He claimed that the breakaway regime has everything needed to be a state and that it is developing each passing day with its 6-7 "universities" and the contribution of Turkey. He said that Turks exist in the island since 1571 and alleged that this place is a "Turkish country".

In his statements, Cafer Esendemir, chairman of Cukurova Journalists' Union, said that they have the impression that the Greek Cypriots became more intransigent after Cyprus assumed the EU term presidency. Moreover, he alleged that the "TRNC" being under "isolation" is something unacceptable.

[02] The new illegal airport will reportedly be constructed on Tymvios' land

Under the title "Tymvou came out from the exchange", Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar newspaper (12.07.12) reports that the property, which will be exchanged between Greek Cypriot refugee Mike Tymvios and the "Property Compensation Commission" set up by Turkey in the occupied area of Cyprus, is the area where the illegal Tumvou airport is located. The paper describes the approval of the agreement between Tymvios and the "Commission" by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus as "a new step in the direction of de facto arrangement in the property issue".

An "official" told Haberdar that in exchange to his property in the occupied area of Cyprus, Tymvios was given land in Larnaka which belongs to the Turkish Communal Assembly. The "official" said that after this exchange, the new illegal airport which will be constructed in the occupied area of Cyprus will be built on land that will totally belong to the "TRNC state".

According to the paper, Tymvios agreed to exchange 500 donums [Translator's note: a land measure of around 1000 square meters] of land located south of illegal Tymvou airport and 100 donums of land in the Kyrenia area.

[03] Cicek: "The solution in Cyprus should be constructed on two separate states, two separate democracies"

Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (12.07.12) reports that Cemil Cicek, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), has alleged that two equal peoples exist in Cyprus, that the Turkish Cypriots are not a minority and that the soonest this "reality" is accepted, an important step towards peace will be taken. In statements yesterday during a meeting with the self-styled ambassador of the breakaway regime to Ankara, Mustafa Lakatamyali and terrorist TMT organization's "fighters'' association, Cicek congratulated them for the "20 July feast", as he called the day of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and reiterated the Turkish views that the invasion brought peace to Cyprus and that the Cyprus problem is Turkey's national cause.

Cicek alleged that in spite of Turkey's efforts no result came out from the Cyprus negotiations "because of the stance of the Greek Cypriots and those who support them". He claimed that Turkey wants peace, but not at any cost. He said they want a peace, which will entail "very well established balances" and will "make returning to the pre-1974 period impossible".

Cicek alleged the following: "Two equal peoples exist there. The Turks are not minority there. The soonest this reality is accepted an important step for peace will be taken. Two separate states, two separate democracies exist there. What will happen in the first place, will be constructed on these foundations? It is impossible without accepting this. A matter which will never be abandoned is Turkey's guarantees. Turkey cannot abandon its guarantees. We do not want our brothers there to experience the conditions of the pre-1974 period again. We continue negotiating under these conditions. We continue the negotiations. If there is peace on the conditions we say, this will be for everyone's benefit, but it seems that this will not happen from the one day to the other. Especially during the EU term presidency these negotiations came to a standstill. Either there is peace or not, let us look after our own job. We have to exert efforts, which will secure that our state there becomes stronger, and our brothers live in happiness and prosperity. We cannot establish peace by ourselves, but we can create a democracy which works well there, a state which works well and a community which lives happily".

Cicek said that they should develop policies which will eliminate the difference which exists between the government-controlled and the occupied area of Cyprus and added that transferring energy from Turkey to the occupied area of the island is extremely important.

[04] Atun says that in 2-3 months they will have definite results from the land drilling for oil in occupied Syngrasi area

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (12.07.12) reports that Sunat Atun, self-styled minister of economy and energy of the breakaway regime, has said that in 2-3 months they will have definite results from the land drilling for natural gas and oil in occupied Syngrasi village area. In statements made to illegal Bayrak television, Atun noted that the drilling works reached a depth of 2.300 meters until yesterday and added that they should continue in order for having definite results.

Noting that they have "granted" a new license to Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) for carrying out explorations in the area between occupied Morfou and Kormakitis village, Atun said that they will carry out explorations in that area in case such a need arises. He added that a seismic map is needed for the land explorations for oil and natural gas and that a fully equipped vessel which will be purchased by TPAO will be primarily used in explorations in the so-called territorial waters of the "TRNC".

Referring to the economic problems of the Republic of Cyprus, Atun alleged that a fund of 18 billion euro should be secured and argued: "Today we see that a debate is experienced in the south [Translator's note: this is how he described the government-controlled area of the Republic of Cyprus] as to whether they will take help from the European Union's rescue fund or from a Russian loan. However, unfortunately, south Cyprus, where these debates are experienced, is now presiding the European Union. That is, from the one hand it is presiding of the EU and on the other it expects aid from EU's rescue fund".

Atun noted that in 2010, the Turkish Minister of Energy Taner Yildiz had said that the occupied area of Cyprus would become a bridge in the "Blue Stream Project". Atun said that this is a long-term project, that the first step was taken with the transfer of water and that it will continue with electricity. He expressed the belief that a pipeline will be established with the drilling works for natural gas in the sea and that this pipeline will be one of the most important components of this project.
