[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] The Turkish occupation army invites the people to attend the open part of Toros 06 military maneuverTurkish Cypriot daily VOLKAN newspaper (07.11.06) publishes an invitation made by the Turkish occupation army to the people in order to attend the open part of the Toros 06 military maneuver on Thursday 9 November, 2006.At 10.15 in the morning a demonstration will be conducted by commandos and a show of arms and military vehicles will take place in the area of occupied Saint Hilarion Castle. At 13.45 a battalion will conduct land maneuvers with gunfire and health services will be offered to the people in Beykoy area. According to the invitation, the Toros 06 military maneuver will be conducted between 7 and 9 November, 2006. (I/Ts.) [02] The occupation forces illegally arrest two French journalistsTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS (07.11.06) newspaper reports that two French journalists, Mr Frederic Bak and Mr David Muntaner, while taking pictures of the closed area of Varosha from the Palm Beach hotel in the Turkish occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus were illegally arrested by the occupation forces and taken into custody. The French journalists were later tried at the illegal military court and were forced each of them to pay 1000 new Turkish lira as fine. They were accused of taking pictures of the first degree military areas. Turkish Cypriot journalists trade union Basin-Sen, paid the fine and secured the release of the journalists. Basin-Sen made a statement and criticized the arrest of the journalists.(MHY) [03] Talat clarifies that Taiwanization and salvation from isolation is not the Turkish side´s final aimTurkish Cypriot daily YENI DUZEN newspaper (07.11.06) reports that, Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, the self-styled president of the TRNC (secessionist regime in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus), stated that salvation from the isolation and the Taiwanization of the occupied areas is not the Turkish side´s final aim. He also stated that the Turkish Cypriots want to take place as equal partner in the new formation of the Republic of Cyprus and added that they aimed to be recognised by the world in this manner.Mr Talat made these statements at the opening ceremony of the A. Mehmet Gazioglu and Sons LTD Integrated Beverage Foundations in occupied Famagusta. Mr Talat stated that a nation with a strong economy is stronger at the negotiation table. (C/S) [04] Ferdi Sabit Soyer is holding contacts in ChileIllegal Bayrak television (07.11.06) broadcast the following:The Socialist International convenes today in the Chilean capital Santiago. Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer is representing the Republican Turkish Party United Forces at the conference which ends tomorrow. At the conference, Mr. Soyer will explain the Turkish Cypriot Sides position concerning the Cyprus issue. The Socialist International, the worldwide political organization which groups over 160 social democrat, Socialist and labor parties from all continents, is - this year - holding its general assembly in Chile hosted by its member parties in that country. The CTP has been attending the Socialist International as an observer. Under the theme "From National to Global Governance: Priorities for a Sustainable Future", the Council will be opened with an opening speech by the Chilean President Michelle Bachele - the first woman president of the country. Other speakers at the opening will be the President of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, and the leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), and term President of the Socialist International, George Papandreou, from Greece. Environmental concerns and challenges in developing policies for the sustainable use of energy on a global scale will be addressed in todays session in the afternoon, under the theme "Energy and Climate Change: A Call to Action". Tomorrows discussion will focus on "New Horizons for Peace: Promoting Solutions to Conflicts" in which peace in the Middle East, Africa and the latest developments in East Asia will be addressed. Meanwhile, during his stay in Chile, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer will meet with Socialist leaders from many countries. [05] The occupied areas are promoting tourism in the London Tourism FairIllegal Bayrak television (06.11.06) broadcast the following:The worlds biggest tourism fair has opened in Londons Excel Fair Area in Dockland District. The TRNC is also being represented in the fair which is being attended by 202 countries and nearly 48 thousand delegates. Many Turkish Cypriot Tourism Agencies are taking part in the fair. The TRNC Economy and Tourism Minister Enver Ozturk accompanied by his Undersecretary Mehmet Basel and the Director of the Tourism Planning Department Hasan Artuner are attending the fair. [06] Sonay Adem on the illegal workers who were registered since 1999Turkish Cypriot daily VOLKAN newspaper (07.11.06) reports that the self-styled minister of labour of the secessionist regime, Mr Sonay Adem, revealed yesterday the numbers of the illegal workers who were registered in the occupied areas since 1999.Speaking at the assembly during the discussion of the draft-law regarding the work permits to foreigners, Mr Adem said that 5.000 workers were registered in 1999, 6.113 in 2000, 5.311 in 2001, 5.828 in 2002, 6.498 in 2003, 12.429 in 2004, 46.000 in 2005 and 35.000 - 36.000 in 2006. Mr Adem noted that in this manner they secured to the state an income of 150 trillion Turkish liras and prevented it from suffering a loss. The draft-law was accepted unanimously and provides for the foreigners to secure a permit before being able to work in the occupied areas and for determining the principles according to which this permit will be granted. Mr Adem said that at least three months were needed for someone to take work permit in the occupied areas in the past. Now, with the centralization of the procedure and by issuing health certificates from the private sector, the work permit could be issued in a week, he added. (I/Ts.) [07] The British fugitive Garry Robb set free on bailTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (11.07.06) reports that British fugitive Garry Robb, Barry Christopher and Turkish Cypriot Tuncer Tahir Soycan, who were taken into custody last Thursday for forging documents and false pretence were set free on bail. The paper reports that their passports were confiscated and they were forbidden to leave the occupied area.(MHY) [08] The head of the European Commission representation in Cyprus visited the Turkish Chamber of IndustryIllegal Bayrak television (06.11.06) broadcast the following:The Head of the European Commission representation in Cyprus Themis Themistocleous said that the Green Line Regulation is very important in developing trade relations and inter-communal communication in Cyprus. Mr. Themistocleous has paid a visit to the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry today. During his visit, the Head of the European Commission representation touched upon the issue of Green Line Regulation and expressed the Commissions full support to any idea concerning the issue. He also expressed the need for detailing the issue of the use of human resources funds sponsored by the EU to improve the relations between the two people on the island. For his part the President of the Chamber Musa Sonmezler stated that the current problems between North and South Cyprus are entirely psychological adding that the improvement in trade relations is a necessity for both sides of the island. He also stressed the need for joint projects concerning the future of Cyprus. [09] Erdogan: Turkey considers the EU as a strategic targetAnkara Anatolia news agency (05.11.06) reported that the Turkish Prime Minister, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Sunday, speaking at a meeting with the representatives of NGOs, said Turkey was passing through an important critical point, and added:"This is not a process that is assessed only in terms of high interests of the country and the nation but it is at the same time a process which has multilateral reflections in terms of regional and global peace. Turkey considers the EU as a strategic target. Accession process to the EU is one of the most important means of our ideal to make our people reach the best living conditions. We have the necessary political will to reach EU target. Accession negotiations were launched on October 3rd, 2005. I think we have passed the most critical stage. The accession process progresses in its route. Mr Erdogan said that the screening process with the EU which was carried out under 33 topics also concluded successfully and recalled that the negotiations were opened and closed in one chapter. He said: "Works continue to open new chapters to negotiation. The process aims at Turkey reaching the highest norms and standards in democracy, human rights and supremacy of law. Continuation of the support of our people to the process will add momentum to our efforts.
