Ankara Anatolia news agency (23.05.05) reports from occupied Lefkosia that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mehmet Ali Talat said on Monday that property issue would be solved with the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Mr Talat said that he sent letters to the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan and the EU member countries, noting that he asked these officials to intervene in this issue.

When asked whether he launched an initiative on the cases filed against Turkish Cypriots and foreigners who usurp Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied part of the island, Mr Talat reiterated that necessary preparations were made, but these preparations could not be made public now.

Mr Talat also noted that they brought this issue onto the agenda during their meetings with foreign officials. Noting that this was a political issue and that there was no need to concern about it, he recalled that some Greek Cypriot officials also considered that the issue could not be solved through law suits.

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (24.05.05) reports that the so-called Prime Minister of the occupation regime, Ferdi Sabit Soyer met yesterday with a delegation of the Turkish Cypriot Hoteliers´ Association.

During the meeting they, inter alia, discussed the property issue. Mr Soyer, commenting on the issue, said: In order to prevent a comprehensive solution and undermine the economical development of the Turkish Cypriots and their integration with the world, the administration of Mr Papadopoulos chose the legal way. At the same time, we as a government in full cooperation and solidarity with our president, will do whatever we can to give this political mistake a legal answer. We will face these cases. We will reply to the steps that they want to take a regards these cases, on the basis of the political legitimacy and with the legal means we have.

[03] Serdar Denktas launches an initiative in Africa

Turkish Cypriot daily CUMHURIYET newspaper (24.05.05) reports that Mr Serdar Denktas, so-called deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of the occupation regime, is launching a diplomatic initiative in the African continent, and especially in West Africa, aiming at developing relations with countries which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and getting their support on the issue of lifting the so-called embargoes allegedly imposed on the Turkish Cypriots.

The paper reminds that Mr Denktas had meetings on the same issue with the governments of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

In statements in Paris to the correspondent of the illegal TAK news agency, Mr Denktas underlined the importance they give to the relations with the 56 OIC member countries and pointed out that the Organization could play a significant role in the United Nations on the issue of adopting a decision, which provides for the lifting of the so-called embargo allegedly imposed on the Turkish Cypriots.

Mr Cakici also noted that the policy followed in occupied Cyprus, which was unsuccessful and without a vision, led the Turkish Cypriots to this situation. It should have been seen that the Cyprus problem would have come to this stage. The leaders and the governments that were not able to see the future are mainly responsible for todays situation, he agreed.

We are as well looking into this matter. If need be I personally will contact with the EU leaders, and I will explain these to them. I want to contribute to Turkey´s accession to the EU.
