[01] Computers from the so-called Migration Department have been stolen; Unknown persons were reportedly after the list of the Turkish settlers submitted by the Turkish Cypriot side to the United Nations

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (17.05.05) reports that unknown persons have stolen two computers belonging to the so-called Migration Department, aiming at acquiring secret state information.

The paper, which reports that the incident took place during the weekend, publishes statements by Ali Alnar, permanent secretary of the so-called ministry of internal affairs of the occupation regime, who said that the above-mentioned information had no strategic importance and no information that could cause trouble to the pseudostate is included in them. However, he added, the incident caused great disquiet.

The paper writes that this was not the first robbery that has been kept secret by the internal affairs ministry and that on 17 April unknown persons entered the building of the Migration Department and the Register of Births Department.

Meanwhile, political sources told KIBRIS that a relation could exist between the recent robbery and the robbery at the Republican Turkish Party United Forces (RTP UF).

It is considered that the main aim (of the robbery) is acquiring the list of 42 thousand citizens of the TRNC with Republic of Turkey origin given to the United Nations during the negotiations for reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem, reports KIBRIS.

Meanwhile, AFRIKA newspaper (17.05.05) writes that the aim of the perpetrators was not the safe with the money, but a box with information. The paper notes that information regarding the illegal and the legal workers in the occupied areas were lost after the robbery. It is estimated that reorganizing this information will take long period of time.

[02] Mustafa Akinci: The aim must not be to close but to open new crossing pionts

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (17.05.05) reports that Mr Mustafa Akinci, the chairman of the Peace and Democracy Movement (PDM) made statements as regards the property issue and the closing down of crossing points.

Referring to the property issue, Mr Akinci stated that while the Cyprus problem remains unsolved the problems will become more serious.

Mr Akinci stated that the closing of the crossing points should not even mentioned because as he said, more barricades should be opened and the ones that are open, should not be closed. He also stated that the barricades of Zohdia and the barricades at Ledra Street are waiting for their opening.

[03] The Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Trust to form a defence board as regards the law actions taken by Greek cypriots whose properties are usurped in occupied Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot daily CYPRUS TIMES newspaper (17.05.05), reports that the Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Trust has begun efforts to develop an organized, methodical and composed defence, and a strategy for countersuits, in response to lawsuits being filed by some Greek Cypriots, concerning property issues.

The trust will utilize the services of experienced lawyers, academics and state officials with the aim of preventing possible damage by such acitons and offer the Turkish Cypriots a centre to apply to and seek consultation.

According to the Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Trust, the lawsuits are of great significance to the rights of the Turkish Cypirots, as a community, despite the fact that they have been brought againt individuals.

In a press conference conducted yesterday, Chairwoman of the board of trustees, Mrs Emine Erk disclosed information concerning the effort of the trust.

Stating that, in the two months since the trustīs formation, they had received numerous applications from people seeking assistnace concerning matters such as Turkish Cypriot property in the south and missing persons, Mrs Erk said that they deemed these appoications urgent, were assessing them individually and preparing to begin legal proceedings.

Emine Erk expressed the view that they initially wanted to share information with the press about their efforts on the property issue, due to the urgency of the matter.

Experienced lawyers, academics and state officials are assisting in the effort to develop an organized, methodical and composed strategy of countersuits, and that top level international lawyers and academics would be consulted in cases requiring expert information and opinion, stated Mrs Erk.

In a call for the participation of the people, Mrs Erk requested people to inform them immediately if they receive a summons from a Greek Cypriot court of law.

[04] Soyer stated that the legal actions taken by the Greek Cypriots may lead to violence. Efforts to blame President Papadopoulos for the peopleīs wish to defend their human rights

Illegal Turkish Cypriot Bayrak radio (16.05.05) broadcast that Mr Ferdi Sabit Soyer, the so-called prime minister of the occupation regime, warned that the path taken by the Greek Cypriot leader Mr Papadopoulos, in which legal action and court cases are being brought against Turkish Cypriots on property issues, may lead to violence.

Speaking during a meeting he had yesterday with the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Mr Ali Erel, the pseudo prime minister said that the Turkish side will continue its struggle against this policy in two ways legal, and political.

As for the property-cases being brought by some Greek Cypriots against Turkish Cypriots, Mr Soyer alleged that this latest move came at a time when the Republic of Cyprus was expected to announce the changes it wanted to be made in the Annan Plan.

This is a very important step taken by the Papadopoulos administration, that may even lead to an escalation of the tension between the two sides in Cyprus, in the form of creating clashes between individuals from the two sides, he stated.

In addition, as Turkish Cypriot daily YENI DUZEN newspaper (17.05.05) reports, Mr Soyer also stated during his meeting with Mr Erel that actions taken by the Greek Cypriot side as regards the issue of properties, are a kind of attack against the bi-zonal, bi-communal structure, which is the core of the Cyprus problem, and against the federation solution and the political equality on which the Annan Plan is based.

Thanking the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce for its part in the recent changes brought in by the Turkish Cypriots as part of the struggle to achieve a permanent solution to the Cyprus problem, Mr Soyer said that his government will maintain its dialogue with non-governmental organizations.

[05] Serdar Denktas stated that the solution of the Cyprus problem cannot be solved through individual court cases

Illegal Turkish Cypriot Bayrak radio (16.05.05) broadcast that Mr Ali Erel, the chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce along with a delegation,

visited the so-called deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Mr Serdar Denktas.

The delegation presented a report to Mr Denktas on economic issues prepared by the Chamber. The report also included the Chambers views on foreign policy issues, and relations with the European Union.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr Serdar Denktas alleged that no solution to the Cyprus problem can be found through individual court cases. He said the whole issue will be resolved as part of an overall and comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.

Mr Serdar Denktas accused the Republic of Cyprus of not wanting a solution to be found to the Cyprus problem.

It has become clear recently that the Greek Cypriot side is trying to by-pass the Turkish Cypriot side, and is looking for ways in which to resolve the Cyprus problem with Greece and Turkey, he asserted. He also alleged that the Republic of Cyprus is trying to establish a negotiating-triangle made up of the Greek Cypriot south Cyprus, Greece and Turkey.

We are trying to show to the whole world that there can be no solution to the Cyprus problem without the consent of the Turkish Cypriot side. And it is clear that without the Turkish Cypriots consent, no agreement to be signed even by Turkey will be a lasting one, he stated.

[06] The INFORCE chairman Margaret Cox is visiting Cyprus for contacts as regards the issue of the missing persons

Illegal Turkish Cypriot Bayrak radio (16.05.05) broadcast that the chairman of the British institution specialising in forensic medicine (INFORCE) Mrs Margaret Cox, arrived in Cyprus yesterday for contacts with the autonomous Missing Persons Committee. During her three day visit, Ms Cox will attend a meeting of the Autonomous Missing Personsī Committee, on Thursday.

[07] Maronites want to use their churches in the occupied areas

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (17.05.05) reports that the Maronites have been activated in order to be able to use their churches in the occupied villages of Ayia Marina and Asomatos, which are currently a Turkish military zone.

A delegation of the Maronite Movement for Peace in Cyprus headed by its chairman, Mr Marios Mavrides, met yesterday with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, and conveyed to him the wishes of the Maronite Cypriots. Mr Mavrides said that they want a solution in Cyprus and that their wish is to live in their four villages, which are in the areas under the control of the Turkish occupation army.
