Mr Talat demanded the decisions, especially on the issue of the free trade, to be taken without delay and asked Holland to contribute to taking the necessary steps on the issue. Responding to questions, Mr Talat said that the Turkish Cypriots expected the regulations regarding the trade and the economic package to be applied. "We were aiming at their speedy application and this will be done", he added.

In his statements after the meeting, Mr Nicolai said that the information which Mr Talat gave him was very useful and added: "Let our contacts continue, let us meet more often".

Many companies have begun infrastructural investments, notes KIBRIS, waiting for the exports to the EU member - countries. The investments in the cleaning material sector are noteworthy, writes the paper adding that Dagli Trading has announced that it was ready to export cleaning materials of high quality all over the world.

The director of the company, Mr Ozan Dagli said that they had made an investment of more than one million dollars and that they were able to produce 240 tones of cleaning materials per day.

    [03] "Unbelievable scenes"

Under the above title Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (14.07.04) reports that two days ago the so-called police of the occupation regime conducted a security control in the old town of occupied Nicosia, the inhabitants of which are mostly workers who came to from Turkey to the occupied areas of Cyprus.

The "police", which checked places such as night clubs, hotels and guesthouses, found and confiscated many sharp instruments which could be used for committing crime.

Noting that "unbelievable scenes" came up during the control of the "police", KIBRIS writes that people were found sleeping on the ground packed very close to each other in old buildings, which are on the point of collapse and are called "guesthouses".

The paper notes that the reason of the control by the "police" was the increased number of crimes during the past few days in the occupied part of Cyprus.

[04] Gul to participate in Turkish invasion anniversary in Cyprus; To proceed to Egypt

According to Ankara Anatolia (13.07.04), Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will come to Turkish occupied part of Cyprus and then leave for Egypt next week,.

This meeting will be held in Egyptian capital, Cairo, between July 20th and 21st. Foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan and Egypt will meet for the first time after sovereignty was transferred to Iraqi people at the end of June.

This meeting initiated by Turkey and aimed at helping Iraq's reconstruction was earlier held in Istanbul, Riyadh, Tehran, Damascus and Kuwait. Ministers had unofficially met in Istanbul in June during the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

[05] Eroglu discloses new NUP 'Political Vision'

According to local Turkish Cypriot daily HALKIN SESI (14.07.04), the so-called main opposition National Unity Party [NUP] disclosed its political vision for progress and development yesterday. The vision calls for the solution of the Cyprus problem through the recognition of the pseudostate and the establishment of "two states" on the island and views accession to the EU as the ultimate objective.

NUP leader Dervis Eroglu held a press conference yesterday in order to disclose his party's new vision. Speaking at the convocation, which was attended by the NUP deputies, Eroglu explained his party's vision on foreign policy, including accession to the EU, and approach on domestic politics. He said that the NUP was the strongest candidate among the political parties that want to come to power. Stressing that they respect the outcome of the referendum on 24 April, he noted that the outcome of the referendum removed the Annan Plan and forced the United Nations to agree to the existence of "two peoples" on the island with the right to self-determination. Drawing attention to the need for a new assessment, Eroglu said that the UN Security Council resolution no. 186, dated 4 March 1963, and resolution no. 541, dated 1983, which authorized the Cyprus government to speak on behalf of Cyprus, must be changed.

Eroglu went on and said that as NUP, it is out of question to accept the claim made by the UN Secretary-General in his report to the Security Council that "the Turkish Cypriots gave up their desire to secure recognition for their `state´ by saying `yes´ in the referendum".

Eroglu claimed that his party has always been in favor of the island's accession to the EU and noted that they viewed the process as one of the party's main objectives. While outlining his foreign policy objectives within the framework of his party's political vision, Eroglu said that they will further the effort made to promote the rights of the people through cooperation with various political parties, think tanks, universities, and civilian organizations in Europe.

Noting that they support the opening of new border gates between north and south Cyprus without security being ignored, Eroglu stressed that they view the "Green-Line Agreement" as a step that can contribute to a certain extent to the effort made to promote tourism. Pointing to the principles of his party's vision on the EU, Eroglu said that the "Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides must establish equal relations with the organization, initiatives must be made for adaptation, an effort must be made to establish the necessary institutions for accession to the EU, and initiatives must be made to establish economic and social cooperation aimed at removing the economic imbalance between north and south Cyprus."

He asserted that initiatives must be made to change the "Constitution" in accordance with the Copenhagen criteria and noted that the provisional articles in the Constitution must be amended in accordance with the existing conditions and the people's inclinations. Eroglu called for constitutional and legal measures to prevent civilian people from being tried in military courts. He also called for the lifting of the ban on the involvement of public employees in politics.

Another point that drew attention in the NUP political vision for progress and development was related to the economy. Eroglu called for the application of the Maastricht criteria in the economic field and the adoption of the European currency.

Eroglu replied to journalists' questions during the press conference he held to disclose his party's new vision. Replying to a question, he said that he refrained from campaigning for a no vote against the solution of the Cyprus problem when the referendum was held. He said that he opposed the Annan Plan.

[06] Two RPP deputies resign and join JDP

Turkish Daily News (14.07.04) reports that the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed two former Republican People's Party (RPP) deputies, who resigned from their parties last week, into the ruling Justice and Development Party (JDP), briefed the party deputies on love.

Deputy from Adana Atilla Basoglu and deputy from Edirne Necdet Bulut, who resigned from RPP, joined the JDP yesterday. Two deputies were admitted to the JDP at the Tuesday's parliamentary group meeting. Erdogan personally handed the party rosettes to the deputies.

Erdogan started his speech at the JDP group meeting by defining love. He described himself as being in love with Turkey, adding: "Without love, human beings cannot contribute anything to life." He said, "Love is one losing oneself."

Prime Minister Erdogan said: "Suffering is an indivisible part of this hard road. Our love for Turkey shows that this road will be very hard indeed. Turkey is advancing and nothing will stop it."

Erdogan noted that this was their last group meeting for the current legislative years, thanking all deputies for the hard work they had done to make the country a better place.

He said Parliament would pass a few new bills by the weekend, noting that in terms of the number of laws passed; this assembly was going for the record.

He reminded the deputies that he had said their work would be long and hard at the beginning, adding: "This marathon needs stamina. Eventually our hard work will create a synergy with the people. 'Our love for our country is the force that guides us. The successes we have achieved were due to that attitude. We owe Turkey a lot. No one should doubt the fact that we will pay our debt. Turkey is advancing. No one will be able to stop it."

The party was growing as the people's fears and worries were being taken care of, said Erdogan, adding: "You passed 441 laws in a single year. You broke a record. I congratulate you all."

[07] "Change in top TDN position"

Under the above title Turkish Daily News (14.07.04) writes the following:
