[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Mumtaz Soysal supports that the Turkish side wants a solution based on the Belgian model in CyprusTurkish mainland MILLIYET newspaper (internet version, 14.11.03) reports that Mumtaz Soysal, leader of the Independent Republic Party (IRP) and advisor of the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas on legal issues, has said that the Turkish side is preparing an alternative plan towards finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, taking as basis the Belgian model.According to MILLIYET, talking to Tempo magazine, Mr Soysal alleged: ^ÓOur proposal for a solution is simple. We want the solution of the two states. We are saying that this reality must be recognized. The state in the south is illegal for us and for them our state in the north is illegal. However, the world has chosen to support them. The greatest substantial injustice is there. We are saying, let this reality be recognized. Let the existence of the two states be accepted. ^Å^Ô. Arguing that Cyprus could join the EU with the status of two separate states, Mr Soysal claimed: ^ÓBecause of the geography, it is obligatory that these two states are turned into one state, but this one state must be a state having within it two states. At least the European Union should not see two separate states behind this. This is not something that could not happen^Ô.
