[01] Mumtaz Soysal supports that the Turkish side wants a solution based on the Belgian model in Cyprus

Turkish mainland MILLIYET newspaper (internet version, 14.11.03) reports that Mumtaz Soysal, leader of the Independent Republic Party (IRP) and advisor of the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas on legal issues, has said that the Turkish side is preparing an alternative plan towards finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, taking as basis the Belgian model.

According to MILLIYET, talking to Tempo magazine, Mr Soysal alleged: ^ÓOur proposal for a solution is simple. We want the solution of the two states. We are saying that this reality must be recognized. The state in the south is illegal for us and for them our state in the north is illegal. However, the world has chosen to support them. The greatest substantial injustice is there. We are saying, let this reality be recognized. Let the existence of the two states be accepted. ^Å^Ô.

Arguing that Cyprus could join the EU with the status of two separate states, Mr Soysal claimed: ^ÓBecause of the geography, it is obligatory that these two states are turned into one state, but this one state must be a state having within it two states. At least the European Union should not see two separate states behind this. This is not something that could not happen^Ô. Giving the example of Belgium on this issue, Mr Soysal said: ^ÓThis is the model we want to apply on the issue of the relations with the EU. To a degree the Annan Plan includes this, but this is not exactly to the extend we want^Ô.

[02] The Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism says his country is ready to invest in the occupied closed city of Varosha

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (14.11.03) reports that Turkey^Òs Minister of Culture and Tourism, Erkan Mumcu has said that his country was ready to invest in the occupied closed city of Varosha.

Responding to questions of KIBRIS^Ò correspondent to London, Mr Mumcu said: ^ÓIn case the legal infrastructure in Varosha is ready, Turkey is ready to make investments. The Turkish tourism has reached the threshold of creating its own trademarks and turn them into an international chain. Cyprus could be an extremely important partner for us from this point of view^Ô.

[03] Increased number of Turkish officials will participate in the celebrations for the UDI

Under the title ^ÓLanding (operation) to the TRNC by officials from Turkey^Ô, Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (14.11.03) reports that many political party leaders and other officials from Turkey are expected to illegally visit the occupied areas of Cyprus in order to participate in the celebrations for the Turkish Cypriot Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI).

According to the paper, in addition to Prime Minister Erdogan, who is expected to arrive tomorrow at 10:00 and depart at 20:45, Kemal Nehrozoglu, General Secretary of the Presidency, Ismail Alptekin, the Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Deniz Baykal, chairman of the main opposition Republican People^Òs Party (RPP), Mehmet Agar, chairman of the True Path Party (TPP), Dogu Perincek, chairman of the Labour Party and Aykut Erbali, chairman of the Nationalist Party will also attend the celebrations. Furthermore, the commander of the Turkish Air Force, general Ibrahim Firtina will be arriving today in occupied Cyprus for the same reason.

Prime Minister Erdogan will visit the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas at 15:40. At 18:00 he will meet with ^ÓPrime Minister^Ô and ^ÓDeputy Prime Minister^Ô, Dervis Eroglu and Serdar Denktas, at 18:30 with the opposition party leaders, Mustafa Akinci (Peace and Democracy Movement), Mehmet Ali Talat (Republican Turkish Party) and Ali Erel (Solution and EU Party) and at 19:00 with the leaders of the other minor right wing parties.

Meanwhile, according to Turkish mainland MILLIYET and HURRIYET newspapers (14.11.03 internet version), Mr Erdogan wishes to go to the Ledra Palace barricade and have a ^Ófriendly meeting^Ô with Greek Cypriot officials and other Greek Cypriots. The papers write that Erdogan will bring also flowers to the barricade. Sources from the Prime Minister^Òs office told MILLIYET and HURRIYET that they were waiting for a reply from the Greek Cypriot side regarding this issue. The message that Mr Erdogan wished to cross over to the free areas of Cyprus during his illegal visit to the island, has reportedly been conveyed by the Prime Minister^Òs Office and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Greece and the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to HURRIYET, Mr Erdogan will convey to his interlocutors during the meetings in the occupied areas the message that ^Óthe Annan Plan could not be put aside, this plan could constitute a basis for negotiations and the solution could be reached only at the negotiating table and not by running away from the negotiations^Ô.

MILLIYET writes that 70 journalists will accompany Mr Erdogan.

Meanwhile, NTV television (14.11.03, 12:30 hours) broadcast that Mr Erdogan, in response to HURRIYE and MILLIYET´s reports, denied the content of the reports and said that he does not intend to visit the Ledra Palace barricade and meet with Greek Cypriot officials.

[04] The youth branch of the Patriotic Unity Movement will organise a demonstration tomorrow protesting against Mr Erdogan^Òs visit to occupied Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (13.11.03) reports that the youth branch of the Patriotic Unity Movement (PUM) will organise a demonstration on Saturday afternoon protesting against the Turkish Prime Minister, Mr Tayyip Erdogan^Òs visit to occupied Cyprus. Mr Erdogan will participate in the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the declaration of the pseudostate.

The youth branch of the PUM stated that it will demonstrate in order to show clearly to the Turkish Prime Minster that he is responsible for the non-solution and the non- democratic situation that exists in the regime.

The Organisation calls on all the young Turkish Cypriots to join them in this action.
