[01] Prime Minister Erdogan will visit the occupied areas of Cyprus on the anniversary of the UDI

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (02.11.03) reports that the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will pay an illegaly visit to the occupied areas of Cyprus on 15 November 2003, the date when Denktas announced, the Unilateral Declaration of Independence."

KIBRIS writes that according to Turkish mainland RADIKAL newspaper, Mr Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (JDP) is getting into action in view of the forthcoming 14 December "elections" in the occupied areas. The paper notes that during his one-day visit, Mr Erdogan will be meeting with the leaders of all the political parties, which will participate in the "elections". His first meeting will be with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktas.

The message that Mr Erdogan wishes to convey, reports KIBRIS , is that he keeps the same distance between the political parties in the occupied areas and that he is ready to cooperate with anyone of them in case it wins the "elections".

Mr Erdogan is also expected to participate in the "celebrations" for the UDI send a message to the EU that "sacrifices cannot be made only by the one of the sides". According to the papers, Mr Erdogan is also expected to criticize the fact that the EU accepted the Republic of Cyprus as its full member.

Meanwhile, talking on a programme of the Turkish mainland TGRT television, Mr Erdogan argued that the Turkish side would continue making good-will gestures, in spite of the fact that there is no response to its so-called gestures from the Greek side.

Mr Erdogan claimed, inter alia, the following: ".We shall continue our positive approach. However, we must accept the following: There are two parts, two languages in Cyprus. Both sides must mutually show respect to the law. As long as they do not do this, reaching a solution will be difficult. This (the Cyprus problem) is brought to us as an issue related to the EU. However, they should not put this before us. Cyprus was not in the package (Copenhagen package). Bringing the issue before us, in spite of the fact that it was not included in the package, is tantamount to trying to earn something from the situation. We could not accept such a de facto situation".

[02] KTAMS accuses the occupation regime of employing 1.500 persons during the last few months

Turkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (03.11.03) reports that the Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Trade Union (KTAMS) has accused the occupation regime of employing 1.500 persons during the last few months, aiming at ensuring votes in the December "elections".

The paper publishes a list with information acquired by the chairman of KTAMS, Ali Seylani, regarding the number of the people hired in each "government office" and "ministry".

According to KIBRIS, only illegal Bayrak radio and television hired more than 400 persons during the above-mentioned period.

[03] Eroglu and Talat denied that they signed a secret agreement for co-operation after the "elections" of the pseudostate

Turkish Cypriot daily VATAN newspaper (01.11.03) reports that Mr Dervis Eroglu, the so-called Prime Minister of the pseudostate and chairman of the National Unity Party (NUP) and Mr Mehmet Ali Talat, the chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (RTP) denied that they had signed a secret agreement for co-operation after the forthcoming so-called elections of the pseudostate.

Commenting on a report published by the Greek Cypriot POLITIS newspaper, regarding this issue, Mr Eroglu stated that there is not a secret agreement between NUP and RTP for establishing a "coalition government" after the December "elections" and stressed that these claims are speculations that have nothing to do with the truth. In addition, he said that these allegations were made in order to mislead and confuse the public opinion.

On his part Mr Talat denied that his party came to a secret understanding with NUP. "A co-operation with the status-quo is impossible", he stressed. Mr Talat repeated that RTP had signed a protocol of co-operation with all the other parties that are in favour of a solution of the Cyprus problem and EU accession and added that the claim that RTP signed an agreement "with the parties of the status quo" is not a logical one. He also added that the RTP will not be the side that will breach the protocol signed by the parties of the opposition. Mr Talat added that throughout the "election" campaign there are a lot of lies, slanders and manipulations and stressed that there is an attempt to create doubts to the public opinion, "which is not possible to be succeeded".

[04] Piri Reis research vessel continues its researches in occupied Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot daily BIRLIK newspaper (02.11.03) reports that Piri Reis research vessel, which belongs to Turkey's 9 September University, continues its researches in occupied Cyprus.

The research vessel, which is anchored in the occupied harbor of Famagusta, continues to make bio-ecological researches in the so-called "territorial waters" of the pseudostate. As the paper writes these researches, which have started since 1997 with the help of the "Ministry of Agriculture and Forests" and the "Turkish embassy" in occupied Cyprus, will continue and become more detailed in the coming period.
