[01] The Turkish Prime Minister is planning to visit the occupied areas of Cyprus

Addressing journalists in Balcova town of western province of Izmir, Prime Minister Gul said: ``We have always attributed great importance to Cyprus and will continue to do so in the future. The process in Cyprus will continue till February 28. The Cyprus question is one of the main issues of our foreign policy. Meanwhile, elections will be held in the Greek Cypriot side. We have been monitoring all developments. I plan to pay a visit to the `TRNC/ in the coming days.``

When asked, ``Turkish economic circles say that Turkey would suffer a loss of 20 billion U.S. dollars because of a possible military operation against Iraq. On the other hand, U.S. officials say that Turkey might suffer a loss of 3-5 billion U.S. dollars. What do you say about it?`` Prime Minister Gul said: ``These uncertainties will come to an end till the weekend. All these issues will be taken up during contacts of State Minister Ali Babacan and Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis in the United States.``

Responding to a question about France`s proposal on deployment of United Nations forces in Iraq, Prime Minister Gul said: ``Nothing has become official yet. United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Committee (UNMOVIC) Chairman Hans Blix and International Atomic Energy (IAEA) Director General Mohamed El-Baradei will release their report on February 14.``

When asked whether or not he had held any other secret meetings except for his meeting with Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan, Prime Minister Gul said: ``No. Our contacts have been continuing through the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq and the Iraqi Ambassador to Turkey. I did not receive any message from Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.``

[02] AFRIKA publishes the second and third part of the special edition for Cyprus of the Turkish mainland "Antikapitalist" magazine

In the second part published yesterday the magazine reminds that before the tragic events in 1963-64, the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots were living together in all the towns of Cyprus and in many villages. According to the magazine there were 114 mixed villages, 392 Greek Cypriot villages and 123 Turkish Cypriot villages.

The magazine publishes also some rules imposed on the Turkish Cypriots as from 18 December 1964 by their leadership. According to those rules, after the Turkish Cypriots abandoned the Republic of Cyprus and withdrew into enclaves, they were not allowed, without taking the permission of their leadership, to go to the areas where the Greek Cypriots lived. According to the magazine the following rules were included in the announcement published on 18 December 1964 by the Turkish Cypriot leadership:

1. Those who established trade relations with Greek Cypriots would pay the fine of 25 sterling pounds and would go to jail.

2. The fine would have been imposed:

a) To those who spoke with Greek Cypriots, carried out trade transactions with them and brought any stranger into the Turkish enclaves.

b) To those who established relations with the Greek Cypriots for official affairs.

c) To those who accepted to appear before Greek Cypriot courts.

d) To those who were examined at Greek Cypriot hospitals or visited them in order to take medicines.

3. Those who went to the Greek Cypriot area for the following reasons would have been obliged to pay the 25 sterling fine or to be punished with a heavier punishment and go to prison for one month or more:

a) For a walk

b) To visit a Greek Cypriot friend.

c) To have fun.

"The Turkish Cypriots had from now on been forced to live enclaved in an open prison", continues the magazine adding that "the Turkish army was their guard".

AFRIKA publishes today (14.02.03) the third part of the special edition of the above-mentioned magazine for Cyprus. Under the subtitle "Occupation" the magazine refers to the 15 July coup conducted by the junta in Greece against President Makarios and writes:

".However, the dominant powers in Turkey used this coup as a pretext in order to realize this occupation, which Fazil Kucuk proposed in 1957. The Turkish army landed in the island with 40 thousand soldiers. 200 thousand Greek Cypriots and tens of thousands of Turkish Cypriots were forced to migrate. During the invasion of the Turkish army six thousand people died. After the invasion both sides applied the ethnic cleansing. With the 1974 invasion the Turks occupied the 35 % of the island in spite of the fact that the Turkish population were 18 %. 75 % of the population of the occupied territories had been Greek Cypriots. .However, the island was artificially divided into two. The public prosecutor of the British colonial power and founder of the terrorist TMT organization, Denktas, is the leader of the open prison which was established since then for the Turkish Cypriots.".

[03] The chairman of the Motherland Party to visit the pseudostate today

In statements in view of his illegal visit to the puppet regime Mr Ozdemir said that the reason of his visit with a delegation of 100 mayors elected by his party, is to express support for the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktas.

"The drafting of the foreign policy is a national affair and not an issue such as the mayorship or the position of minister. It concerns the future of the Turkish Republic and our children. We have drawn the national borders with the blood of our children. Unforgivable mistakes may be made by decisions taken incompetently", said Mr Ozdemir.

The chairman of the Motherland Party criticized the Turkish Government of the Justice and Developments Party (JDP) for its policy towards Cyprus and Iraq and stressed that the government has not taken yet a clear decision regarding these two issues.

He also criticized Mehmet Agar, the chairman of the True Path Party (TPP) for his policy regarding the Cyprus problem.
