[01] The Turkish Cypriot leader admits that he follows the principles adopted by the Turkish National Security Council

Illegal Bayrak Radio (01.08.02) broadcast that addressing a meeting with the so-called mayor of occupied Karavas the Turkish Cypriot leader Mr Rauf Denktas, has said that the Turkish Cypriots are being invited to the EU as a minority, adding, however, that there are two Cyprus governments. Explaining that Turkey, which is the only country that recognizes his pseudostate is beautifying the country and extending support to everything, Denktas explained the dangers of joining the EU without Turkey/s effective and de facto guarantee.

Denktas continued: "Everybody seeks an agreement. However, there are certain national conditions. There are national principles adopted by the Turkish National Seecurity Council. The EU train will always be there. The important thing is to safeguard the country."

Criticizing the urgency in joining the EU because of the difficult economic conditions, Denktas gave the economic difficulties of the years 1963-1974 as an example, alleging that the Greek Cypriots stay away from conciliation when they sense an urgency.

Pointing out that the EU train that should be taken should include sovereignty, equality, and motherland Turkey/s guarantee, Denktas expressed belief that the youth will pursue this stance with their national enthusiasm.

[02] The Turkish Cypriot leader stresses that he is struggling for the geopolitical rights of Turkey in Cyprus.

Ankara Anatolia New Agency (01.08.02) reported that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktas, said on Thursday that no new peace operation has to be carried out in Cyprus today, adding that this depended on claiming ownership on territory, sovereignty and state.

Addressing the opening of occupied Kyrenia Strait Cemetery for Turkish soldiers where new statues were unveiled, Denktas said that "no new peace operation should be carried out today. No blood should be shed and mothers should not cry again".

Denktas also said that Turkish Cypriots should ask the cost of the promises made to them, and added: "It is clear that the Greek Cypriots want to take away the freedom and equal sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots. They want Turkish Cypriots to break ties with motherland, to end the geopolitical rights of motherland on Cyprus and they want us to be a minority within a Greek Cypriot republic. We must know these facts".

He continued by saying that it is his mission to remind the reason of the deaths of Turkish soldiers in the cemetery, adding that they died because of freedom and to save Turkish Cypriots.

"Peace exists if it is protected. Peace is precious if we know what we protect. We protect everything which wouldn/t exist today if Turkish soldiers didn/t come to the island. This is not only our lives, but also our national dignity and honour", Denktas concluded.

[03] The anniversaries of conquering and partitioning Cyprus by Turkey were celebrated on August 1st in the occupied areas

Ankara Anatolia News Agency (01.08.02) reported that the 26th anniversary of the foundation of the Security Forces Commandership in the "TRNC", the 44th anniversary of the foundation of the terrorist Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT), and the 431st anniversary of conquest of Cyprus by Turks are celebrated as the National Resistance Day in the "TRNC". Two separate ceremonies were held in occupied Nicosia. Senior so-called officials, military officials, and representatives of organizations and institutions attended the ceremony.

Major Mehmet Soganci, who addressed the ceremony, alleged that the Turkish Cypriots experienced dark days from the time the administration of Cyprus had been left to Britain temporarily till 1974. Soganci said: "Turks blood were shed on those territories and those territories will remain as Turkish motherland forever.

The Turkish nation was never captive. The Turkish Cypriots founded the Turkish Resistance Organization on August 1, 1958 as a reaction against the cruel acts of violence by the Greeks and Greek Cypriot side. The Turkish Cypriots were forced to fight against the existing threats with the spirit created by the Turkish Resistance Organization.

The Turkish Resistance Organization completed its mission following the Peace Operation on July 20, 1974 and the Security Forces Command was founded after the Turkish Resistance Organization was turned into a regular army. The Security Forces Command continued to exert efforts to protect the Turkish Cypriots from every kind of threat and danger."

On his part the occupation Forces Commander Brig. General Galip Mendi said that freedom cannot be traded with anything, during a speech he made on August 1 Social Resistance Day. Stating that it was the 44th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT), Mendi alleged that the TMT encouraged Turkish Cypriots during the years of massacre committed by the Greek Cypriots.

He indicated that the biggest goal of the Turkish Cypriots in 1950s and 1960s was to stop the massacres and then to gain independence. He said that they achieved this result by the 1974 Turkish invasion. Their next target is to make the Turkish Cypriots prosperous, Mendi said.

[04] The Turkish Cypriot leader repeats his allegation that Turkey has geopolitical rights over the Republic of Cyprus

Illegal Bayrak Radio (01.08.02) broadcast that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktas, alleged that plans and projects are underway to send back all the Greek Cypriot refugees to destroy bizonality. Denktas received Mahmut Ozcinar so-called occupied Morphou mayor.

Commenting on the Cyprus issue, Denktas said that an agreement would have been secured a long time ago if the Greek Cypriots had given up their aspiration of owning the whole of Cyprus, accept the Turkish Cypriots as their equal and sovereign partners, not destroy bizonality with projects of having all the Greek Cypriot refugees return, and not act with the aim of turning the Turkish Cypriots into a minority once again. Stating that the Greek Cypriot application to the EU poses an obstacle to a Cyprus solution, Denktas continued: "They (Greek Cypriots), applied to the EU just when a solution was at hand because they thought that the EU laws and regulations will eliminate all the criteria and principles which we agreed upon".

Alleging that Turkey has geopolitical rights over the Republic of Cyprus Denktas continued: "Nobody can secure a Cyprus solution by disrupting the balance achieved with the 1960 agreement, which was based on the equality between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots. These balances should be maintained. A new Cyprus will be established upon these balances. A new partnership will be established founded on the sovereignty of both sides".

Referring to the territorial issue Denktas said that occupied Morphou is the source of water for the occupied areas. Noting that the water source constitutes an important criterion when trying to settle the issues of territories, Denktas added: "We left behind gardens and orchards three times the size of Morphou. One cannot achieve anything by deceiving the whole world. A Cyprus solution will become very easy if one knows the reason for the division of the two communities". Alleging that ignoring these facts show that one of the sides pursues the policy of seizing the whole of Cyprus, Denktas concluded: "This is the reason why the Cyprus issue has not been resolved yet. I hope that they will give up this policy".

[05] Turkey's enemies priority list under revision

According to MIILIYET (02.08.02), the order in the enemies list in Turkey/s National Security Policy Document is being reviewed by the Turkish Foreign Ministry and the National Security Council General Secretariat. The paper reports that Greece and Syria are no more heading the list. According to the paper the country that heads the list of Turkey/s enemies is mentioned as "a country in the East of Tukrey".

MILLIYET reports that the CNN Turk television station in Turkey reported the news that the order list has been changed yesterday. Neither military nor diplomatic sources in Ankara officially confirmed the CNN Turk/s report. However, the Turkish Foreign ministry sources that take part in the preparation of the security policy document have confirmed that preparatory work has started to this effect, but a final decision is yet to be taken. The same sources, reports MILLIYET, stressed that if the EU decides next December in favour of Cyprus/ accession then there will be problems in relations between EU and Turkey and in relations between Turkey and Greece.

The paper reports that the military cooperation agreement signed between Turkey and Syria two months ago has removed Syria from being primary enemy of Turkey, in the security policy document.

Any change in the document is being approved by a secret decree of the Council of Ministers, reports the paper.
