[01] TUSIAD delegation meets with Denktas; Warns that solution by June is important for Turkey's accession to the EU

The paper writes that Mustafa Koc, vice president of TUSIAD's administrative council, pointed to Mr Denktas that Turkey's beginning accession talks with the EU at the end of 2002 would to a great extend be facilitated in case concrete steps are made towards finding a solution to the Cyprus problem by June.

Mr Koc said they supported the face-to-face talks between President Clerides and Rauf Denktas, "which continue in a determined way". The Turkish businessman wished a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem and expressed his sorrow for the fact that the EU is allegedly using Cyprus as a master card against Turkey, "showing openly favouritism towards Southern Cyprus", as he claimed.

On his part, the Turkish Cypriot leader said to the Turkish businessmen, among other things, the following: ".We know your views regarding the EU. The opinion that the Cyprus issue prevents the accession to the EU predominates in some circles. When the press leaves us alone we shall discuss these issues in depth, because until today we followed our policy in a way that our Motherland is not harmed. We pursued this policy together with the Motherland. And this is still happening. The steps we make are always careful steps together with our Motherland. We believe that Cyprus is important for the Motherland and it is historical place with geopolitical importance, which could not be abandoned. .".

It is noted that the Turkish businessmen met also with Dervis Eroglu, so-called "Prime Minister", Salih Cosar, so-called "deputy Prime Minister and responsible for the economy" and Turkey's "ambassador" to occupied Nicosia Hayati Guven.

[02] Denktas insists on the existence of his pseudostate

Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting with a delegation of 59 administrators from Turkey, Mr Denktas alleged that foreign powers exert efforts towards separating the Turkish Cypriots from Turkey and in order to achieve this they use tricks like spreading the opinion that the most important thing for Turkey is its accession to the EU, something which cannot be prevented by the Cyprus problem.

Referring to Mrs Karren Fogg, EU's representative in Turkey, Mr Denktas claimed that she tried all the ways to divide Turkey, but she failed. Mr Denktas said, inter alia, the following: ".All games and tricks aim at diving Turkey and making it smaller because it is a strong country.When Madam Fogg's correspondence was published the eyes of all of us, both in Turkey and here, opened. A great game is played against both Turkey and Cyprus.".

[03] Ertugruloglu requests a clarification from the British Government regarding UK Immigration Visas to the Turkish Cypriots

Ertugruloglu affirmed that the report comes as no surprise, that a clarification is being expected from British Government officials and from the British High Commission in Cyprus. Once an announcement is made by these sources, he said, he will issue a statement.

[04] Yilmaz: Discusses EU Ties, Cyprus Issue

Yilmaz said that the recent intensive diplomacy dialogue between the EU and Turkey is in order to urge the EU to give a timetable for the start of negotiations with Turkey.

"We expect the EU to take a decision at the Copenhagen summit that will open our way to the EU. Important steps were taken to fulfil the Copenhagen political criteria to date, but they were not completed," Yilmaz said and noted that Turkey has to focus more on the EU-Turkey relations in the coming period and meetings will be held on this issue.

Responding to a question about the negotiations in Cyprus, Yilmaz said: "A process continues. The Greek Cypriot side should not think that Cyprus will join the EU even if the Cyprus issue is not solved."

The admission of Cyprus to the EU will cause a serious problem in respect of the EU`s future, said Yilmaz and noted that the EU has to be objective and the solution of the problem will become more difficult if the EU takes sides.

The paper answers to Mr Akarcali that AFRIKA exists in the occupied areas to raise its voice against occupation. The paper reminds that in the past Mr Akarcali had stated that northern Cyprus is under occupation and it is ruled by Ankara.

[07] Aktolgali: The information regarding brucellosis infecting 70 % of the employees of the "Veterinary Department" is untrue

Mr Aktolgali said that the disease infected only seven of the employees of his department.

Yesterday KIBRISLI wrote that the illness of brucellosis has been found on 30 out of 67 cows of a farm in the occupied village of Arsos, in the Larnaca area and that 70 % of the veterinarians and the technicians who work in the "Veterinary Department" have been infected by brucellosis.
