[01] Rauf Denktas calls for full integration with Turkey

According to KIBRIS (3.10.01) the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktas, speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges [TOBB] said that Turkey and the pseudostate should be tightly united.

Denktas continued: «The Greek Cypriot side is proud of fully integrating with Greece. They have integrated in every field. Now they want to put a stamp on this integration within the framework of the EU. This is the plot they are hatching. Clerides is saying the following: Once we achieve this, Turkey's guarantor rights will not be effective. In other words, bizonality, the restriction of the three freedoms, the population exchange, and problems such as the exchange of immovable property will be contrary to the EU laws. All Greek Cypriot refugees can return to their homes and Hellenism can be victorious in Cyprus. Therefore, it is wise for us to advance toward full integration with Turkey just as the Greek Cypriots have done with Greece. There is no other way. Cooperation pleases us, we want this cooperation to become more concrete.

Had it not been for the PKK [Workers Party of Kurdistan] terror and the earthquake disaster Turkey would have advanced much further. Those who supported the PKK terror in the past, are calling for unity against terrorism today. I hope that they will not commit the same mistakes in the future and consider Turkey to be the enemy. I hope that they will well assess the contribution Turkey makes to world peace via NATO. I hope that they will appreciate the contribution Turkey's presence in Cyprus makes to peace and to regional stability and that they will renounce their plot of unilaterally disrupting through EU membership the balance established between Turkey and Greece in 1960».

[02] Vehbi Zeki Serter new so-called speaker of the «Assembly»

According to BIRLIK (3.10.01) Vehbi Zeki Serter, so-called deputy from the National Unity Party (NUP) was elected on Tuesday as the «Speaker» of the occupation regime/s «Assembly».

Serter who was the single candidate, was «elected» by 33 votes out of 46. A total of 13 «deputies» cast votes against him.

Unal Ustel, Democratic Party (DP) «deputy» was re-elected as the «Deputy speaker».

[03] The majority in the pseudostate sees the solution of the Cyprus problem as the way out of the economic crisis and holds Denktas and Turkey responsible for it

«Halkin Sesi» (03.10.01) reports that according to a public opinion poll conducted by the paper and the Communications Faculty of the illegal Near East University (NEU), the 66.8 % of the inhabitants of the occupied areas believe that the way out from the economic difficulties they are facing is the solution of the Cyprus problem.

The paper writes that the 21.8% of the 1000 persons from all the occupied regions of Cyprus who participated in the poll believe that their problems will be solved by reducing the expenses of the pseudostate, while the 7.2 % see the solution of their problems in the integration with Turkey. A percentage of about 4.2 % expressed the hope that the «economic package» imposed on the pseudogovernment by Turkey will bring solutions to their problems.

According to the poll, the economic crisis, the corruption in the administration of the pseudostate, the uncertainty in the Cyprus problem and unemployment are the reasons, which force the Turkish Cypriots to emigrate. The 52.5 % of the participants in the poll said that they are thinking of emigrating, writes the paper adding that the 47.2 % of those who are thinking of emigrating are young people.

Asked who they consider the «architect of the economic collapse», the 20.6 % of the participants in the poll answered that the responsible for the crisis is the Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktas, while the 16.2 % said that the government of Turkey is to blame for their problems.

The pseudogovernment is considered responsible for the crisis by a percentage of about 11.6 % of the participants in the poll, the so-called «Prime Minister», Dervish Eroglu by the 8.8 % and the so-called Finance «Minister», Mehmet Bayram by the 2.1 %. A percentage of about 34.6 %, however, answered that they consider all the above-mentioned politicians and institutions responsible for the economic collapse.

When asked which of their expenses they were forced to reduce because of the economic crisis, the participants in the poll answered as follows: the 27.6 % the food expenses, the 26 % the amusement expenses, the 22.1 % the travelling expenses, the 15.8 % the clothing expenses and 8.5 % the education expenses.

[04] Cem said that the Europeans understand better the Cyprus problem now

According to KIBRIS (3/10/01) the Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem completed yesterday his contacts in Germany and left for Turkey. Replying to reporters' questions prior to his departure, Cem made an assessment of his contacts in Germany.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, inter alia, said that the Cyprus problem is in a general development phase and added: "Now we can make ourselves better understood. My interlocutors in Europe understand better the issue. Now everybody knows that the Cyprus problem is not that much easy for the EU. In the event that the Cyprus problem is being presented as a fait accompli then everyone will be in trouble. Especially it will create a problem to Turkey. We will all be at each other's throat in the Mediterranean. They understand this much better."

[05] Denktas was interviewed at AKIS programme

KIBRIS (3/10/01) reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas was yesterday the guest at the "Akis" programme of the illegal Bayrak TV. During the programme, Denktas evaluated his contacts in Turkey and discussed also the internal problems of the occupied areas. Assessing his latest visit to Turkey, Denktas claimed that the Turkish government received him as a "statesman" and added that Turkey means everything to them and without them they cannot stand on their feet. He also explained the difference between the statesman and the politician, claiming that the occupied areas lack politicians of foresight.

AVRUPA (3/10/01), criticizing Denktas' interview, wrote that Denktas again called on the pseudo-government and the pseudo-assembly to enact immediately the punitive law in order to silence the democratic forces.

    [B] COMMENTS AND EDITORIALS

[06] Turkish Cypriot columnist supports that no one can save the pseudostate from bankruptcy

Under the title «It has gone bankrupt...» the Turkish Cypriot columnist Kubilay Ozkirac of «Avrupa» (03.10.01) expresses the view that no one can save the pseudostate from going bankrupt and blames Turkey for this situation. Mr Ozkirac writes the following: «Even the mother cannot save the child. Everything is going into pieces. ...The axle of the state, which the Junta of Evren forced Denktas to establish in 1983, has broken in two! Voices calling for help are being heart from everywhere... `Save us Motherland! `.

Ankara, which rules this country, that is the northern part of Cyprus, since 1974, today razed this piece of land called northern Cyprus to the ground. She is the one who gives the money, she is the one who rules. However, the most important thing is that she is the one who is sending her own citizens to Northern Cyprus and changes the structure of the population here. But they, Ankara and the great majority of the Media in Turkey, do not stop humiliating us saying that `we feed the Turkish Cypriots`.

However, they do not accept the reality of this issue...Of course if you send your citizens here Ankara, it is your duty to feed them. The dollars you send go to the thieves here and to your own citizens.

Ankara is the main responsible for all the negative things in this country and for the plundering and the scandals. The farmers are living in misery ...The peasants are hungry. ...The employees are emigrating. ...The workers are living in misery. The small businesses are closing down one after the other. ...The tradesmen are before the door of the courts. ...The widows and the orphans are on the limit of starvation. ...The young people are leaving this country and emigrating... The number of the people who pass into the north increases every day...

The schools have been opened but the parents are unhappy and the students uneasy. ...Settlers are coming continuously. ...The tenders' mafia is working. ...Anyone can enter from the harbours without control... The borders are riddled with holes! The applications for obtaining a passport of (the Republic of) Cyprus are being made continuously. The depression and the threats have no ending...The bombs which explode have no owner. ...The security of our lives is in danger. ..The monster that they call `traffic` and is their creation continues to take lives...

These days, the great economists Bayram and Cosar announced that 160 million dollars will flow into Northern Cyprus from Turkey. The saliva of the thieves dribbles... We very well know to whose pockets this money will go. You will see that the bank of the father-in- law is going to be saved. ...The chief is determined on this matter. The rest of the money, under the name of investment, will go to the big investors through the Development Bank. The great nationalists have started all together to shout even louder their gratitude to Ankara. ...

The Turkish Cypriots are a minority in the their own country...And they are still emigrating. This is the policy of Ankara. In a speech he gave in London the advisor of the chief, Mumtaz Soysal summarized as follows the policy of Ankara for Cyprus: `Population will keep coming to Northern Cyprus until its population reaches 400.000.

Really, those who claim that they rule this place only obey orders. ...Ankara is the one who caused the bankruptcy in this country, because she is the one who rules it...».
