[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Denktash repeats his two-states claim According to KIBRIS (6.2.01) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, hasclaimed that the pseudostate ``has been established and it is not possible to retract from this''.Responding to President Clerides/s accusation that it is Denktash who is responsible for the impasse in the Cyprus problem the Turkish Cypriot leader repeated his well-known allegations and said: ``There is no other way and a settlement based on two states is the expression of the present realities''. Acceptance of these realities by the Greek Cypriot side will open the way to reconciliation'' Denktash declared. [02] Denktash to attend anti-French Rally in Turkey According to KIBRIS (6.2.01) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash is toleave for Malatya (Southern Turkey) to take part in a rally which will condemn and protest against France for accepting the Armenian genocide. He will address the Rally and will give a press conference on the Cyprus problem.[03] Forged banknotes in occupied area KIBRIS (6.02.2001) reports under banner headlines ``Forged Money Glut'' andsay that Denktash police have arrested two mainland Turks who were trying to circulate forged 10 million TL banknotes in the occupied area.KIBRIS reports that the forged money issue is a heavy blow to the economy. The paper does not disclose the names of the accused, it only identifies them by their initials, E.H and N.U. The report also says that E.H and N.U brought 158 forged 10 million TL banknotes from Turkey and tried to circulate them in the occupied area. The paper further said that offenders mainly forge US dollars and Turkish TL. Denktash/s court issued a three-day remand order for N.U and E.H. [04] Prisoners on hunger strike for amnesty KIBRIS (6.2.01) reports that 30 inmates in the occupied area/s centralprison have begun a hunger strike.The so-called director of the Central Prison Hasan Alibaba said that at first 74 inmates started the hunger strike in the morning and by 16.40 hours yesterday inmates continued the hunger strike. The lawyer of the striking inmates said that prisoners are not asking for a general amnesty but for conditional amnesty, similar to that declared in Turkey last December.
