[01] Denktash and Akinci discuss economic situation

According to ORTAM and KIBRIS (16.5.00) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash had a meeting yesterday with the so-called state minister and deputy prime minister Mustafa Akinci.

During the meeting, Akinci briefed Denktash on the economic situation and the work being carried out by the so-called government.

Denktash asked Akinci to find a speedy solution to the "citizenship issue" and to the equal "property allocations".

Akinci stated that the outline of the so-called economic package prepared by the so-called government will be submitted to the so-called council of ministers tomorrow. After the meeting, which lasted 45 minutes, Denktash and Akinci answered press questions.

    [02] Denktash meets Russian ambassador

KIBRIS (16.5.00) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash met yesterday with the newly appointed Russian Ambassador to Cyprus, Vladimir Alexsandrovic Pavlinov.

Denktash said that he wasn/t able to meet with Pavlinov earlier due to the "elections".

Denktash/s advisors Ergun Olgun, Necati Munir Ertekun, Taner Etkin and Mustafa Evran were also present at the meeting.

    [03] International yacht rally

KIBRIS (16.5.00) reports that as the 11th Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally continues, 76 yachts arrived at the occupied Kyrenia Marina, where they will remain until May 16, before resuming their sail.

The rally which began in Istanbul on April 26, will terminate in Egypt on June 7. In all 76 yachts from Britain, the United States, Germany, Russia, Canada, Italy, Belgium and Turkey are participating in the rally. Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash gave a cocktail party last night for the participating yachtsmen.

During the cocktail, Denktash explained to the yachtsmen the developments in the occupied area, pointing out that at their next visit they will be able to see that there are two "states" in Cyprus but only one representation in the international arena.

Denktash continued by saying that the Cyprus talks will be of the "give and take" kind and that this "dealing relation" will be easier if Greek Cypriots recognize the equality and rights of Turkish Cypriots. Denktash claimed that the fact that the yachtsmen are in the occupied area shows that the "TRNC" exists.

In the meantime, special events have been organized to highlight places of touristic attraction and to enlighten the participating yachtsmen on the occupied area of Cyprus.
