[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Denktash again in TurkeyKIBRIS (22.3.00) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will again go to Turkey on Friday as the guest of Turkish President Suleyman Demirel.Denktash will fly to Ankara in the early hours with Demirel/s private airplane. In Ankara, Denktash will address the conference "Perspective and vision of Turkish Foreign Policy in the 21st century", organized by the Foreign Policy Institute. On the same day, Demirel and Denktash will go to Samsun for the opening of the "Turkic States and Communities Friendship, Brotherhood and Cooperation Congress". After the opening, Denktash will return with Demirel to Ankara. Denktash will fly back to the occupied area the night of the same day. As soon as he returns, at 21.00 hours, he will meet with EU/s Enlargement Commissioner Gunter Verheugen. This church has also been turned into a mosque.(DP) [03] Talat criticizes Denktash and ErogluAccording to YENIDUZEN (22.3.00) the leader of the Republican Turkish Party Mehmet Ali Talat, has "officially" inaugurated with a reception his so- called presidential campaign.Speaking during the reception Talat strongly criticized, without giving names, Denktash and Eroglu, who continue to "impose visa formalities" for the EU representative in Cyprus, who branded the EU as a "meat mincing machine" and who consider the EU as an enemy. "They cannot take the community to the EU" declared Talat. He urged people to support him and together make the Turkish Cypriots an EU member. He said: "In this country there are legal and illegal 25 thousand foreign workers. In the face of this, our youth and children are emigrating."Complaining that there is continuous interference on this issue by those who do not want the settlement of this problem, Sonay Adem said: "The Turkish Cypriot community is a community that is self-sufficient in its domestic affairs". Implying that people in Turkey have intervened and precluded the settlement of this problem, Sonay Adem noted that "today these very people in Turkey are crying and complaining about the illegal workers issue in Turkey." Sonay Adem concluded by saying that "for centuries the Turkish Cypriots have been living on this land and they want to continue to live for centuries". [05] Another party to support Denktash in "elections"KIBRIS (22.3.00) reports that the National Justice Party (MAP) announced yesterday that they will support Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash at the so-called presidential elections.The leader of MAP, Zorlu Tore, inter alia said: "We support Denktash because Turkey relies on and believes in him and he is the apple of the eye of the Turkish nation".
