(MY) [02] Turkish Cypriot organizations send memorandumAccording to KIBRIS (2.9.99), on the occasion of the World Peace Day 24 Turkish Cypriot organizaitons formed a committee which prepared and submitted a memorandum to President Clerides, Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. In the memorandum, President Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Denktash are called to sit around the negotiation table without wasting any time and to take courageous steps towards peace. It is demanded from President Clerides, Denktash and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to contribute to a mutually acceptable peace and settlement. It says that non-solution is used to help chauvinism, escalate tension and for spending the island´s resources on armament. It further adds that non-solution has speeded up the collapse of the Turkish Cypriot community, fed the integration policy and helped the Turkish Cypriot youth to leave the island and emigrate. It stresses that on the wake of the 21st century the present status quo does not ensure a secure future for both Greek and Turkish Cypriots. It goes on and concludes: ``For this reason our most vital need is a mutually acceptable and equitable federal solution which will safeguard the interests of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. Cyprus is the common homeland of the Greek and Turkish Cypriots. For this reason we continue our struggle for peace so that the two peoples who consider Cyprus their common homeland be able to establish a democratic and free future and live in conditions of peace in the 21st century.''
