    [01] Ertugruloglu `US Plan´ imaginary

According to illegal Bayrak radio (9.8.99) Tahsin Ertugruloglu, so-called foreign affairs and defense minister, has declared that there is no scenario or initiative to solve the Cyprus issue through pressure or imposed methods. Ertugruloglu described the reports that the United States has drawn up a 10-point solution plan for the Cyprus problem as a figment of the imagination. He said that the report published in the Greek Cypriot press and also carried in the local newspapers is merely a continuation of the steps taken by the Greek Cypriot-Greek propaganda machine to distort the events and to concoct scenarios in line with their own wishes. He also expressed the hope that the Turkish Cypriot press will not be used as a tool in this effort.

At this moment, he went on, there is only one proposal on the table, put forth by the ``TRNC'' on 31 August 1998. As long as the Greek Cypriot side is allowed to bear a title it does not deserve in the international arena, its foreign policy will depend entirely on the expectation to create a solution through pressure and imposed methods, he said.

Claiming that the policy of the Greek Cypriot side is based on lies and is aimed at evading talks to be conducted on a serious foundation, Ertugruloglu said: If the Greek Cypriot side is so sure of itself and if it truly believes in its cause, it should sit at the negotiation table for talks to be held between two states. This process either yields an agreement between the two states or it fails to do so.

He added that Cyprus policy based on the principle of two states declared by the ``TRNC'' together with Turkey is clear and uncomplicated, stressing that there is no going back.. Ertugruloglu termed regrettable and thought- provoking the fact that imaginary reports originating from Greece and carried by the Greek Cypriot press appeared as headline news in the ``TRNC'' press.

He reiterated that the ``TRNC'' will participate in a negotiating process based on the principle of the existing two states in Cyprus.

Taking a step back from the foreign policy line adopted in the wake of December 1997 is out of question Ertugruloglu declared, adding that the ``TRNC'' is pursuing its foreign policy on a justified and solid ground. He said that it is necessary to prevent this policy from being diluted in any way and not allow our people to discuss whether this is a temporary reaction or a serious stand. He added: ``I am personally demanding that our press display sensitivity in this regard. It is beneficial for everyone to know that our foreign policy is not a temporary reaction, but a lasting policy.''
