[01] Denktash on S-300´s, foreign interference

In a statement to Anatolia, Denktash said that the S-300´s that were not brought to the island were taken to Crete, adding that, however, Crete is as significant and sensitive a place as Cyprus when it comes to Turkish- Greek relations. Denktash continued:

``Let us see what they will do there. Turkey has announced that measures on the issue are being taken. Meanwhile Clerides issued a statement saying:

`We have sent them to Crete but, in the meantime, we have begun initiatives to purchase missiles with a shorter range´. They continue to bring heavy weaponry to the island. More tanks have been brought to the island. The Greek Cypriot sector is continuing its armament purchases from Greece and other countries. It is difficult to understand why, because they are not faced with any threat. The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) on the island are deployed against a possible threat from them to us,'' he claimed.

He further claimed: ``The Greek Cypriots are inclined to solve through the EU their cause of owning Cyprus, which they failed to solve through armament, embargoes, and international initiatives. We and Turkey have strongly opposed these initiatives, and we shall continue to do so. They requested the intervention of the eight rich countries known as the G-8 by deceiving and influencing the world. We are clearing telling the G-8, the United States, and Britain the following: `Do not get involved in this issue and do not intervene. Your intervention raises the hopes of the Greek Cypriots and encourages them to pursue their erroneous path. Therefore, we are also telling the UN Secretary General to keep his distance´. They, however, refuse to listen. They constantly intervene or attempt to intervene, thus preventing the solution of the problem''.

Assessing the initiatives of the G-8 in connection with the Cyprus issue, Denktash said:

``We do not want the G-8 to intervene in the Cyprus question in any way. The Cyprus problem concerns Turkey, Greece, and the Turkish and Greek Cypriots, who are the extensions of these two nations on the island. Let them not disrupt this balance. By upsetting this balance, they are raising the hopes of the Greek Cypriots''. He added: ``If we are going to unite, we shall determine the terms and we shall negotiate.''

Dentkash said that the aim of the Turkish Cypriots is to remove the bureaucratic obstacles between the ``TRNC'' and Turkey and to integrate their economies. Noting that the legal arrangements on the issue are being worked out by Turkey, Denktash said that the ``TRNC'' side will conclude its own arrangements in the near future.

Pointing out that they want to fully integrate the pseudostate´s economy with Turkey´s in a bid to strengthen it, Denktash added: ``We are, thus, trying to enable the Turkish Cypriots to sell their goods in a market with a population of 65 million, to circulate freely, and to open the paths to investment. We are in agreement with the Turkish Government on the issue''.

Pointing out that the Cyprus issue is viewed to be above parties in Turkey, Denktash expressed his pleasure over this. Commenting on ``TRNC'' expectations from Turkey, Denktash said that it is the establishment of a stable government.

[02] Turkey helps pseudostate in its citrus fruits exports

The paper adds that Turkey´s Council of Ministers has decided to transfer the said funds to the so-called Central Bank of the pseudostate.

The paper reports that Turkey will provide these funds in order to encourage exporters and help them face international competition. (MY)

[03] More on the issue of selling ``TRNC citizenship''

KIBRIS discloses that the decision to give passports to those who will invest in the occupied area had been taken during the so-called DP-RTP coalition period and approved during the so-called NUP-DP coalition.

Speaking to KIBRIS, DP leader Serdar Denktash confirmed the report that the decision on the ``Immigrant Investor Programme'' was taken during the DP- RTP ``coalition''.

He further said that they decided not to publish this decision in the so- called official gazette of the pseudostate.

Meanwhile, the so-called prime minister of the pseudostate Dervis Eroglu has declared that an investigation will be opened regarding the issue, specifically on Kenan Akin´s involvement in the issue.

[04] Turkish Education Minister to visit occupied area

He will take part in the inauguration ceremonies of the Kyrenia Teachers Home and the Karpass Technical Lyceum.

He will also have contacts in the occupied area.

He will leave for Turkey on 16 May.

[05] Hasipoglu: Sovereignty, equality in exchange for dialogue

``What is basic in Cyprus is the political equality of the two states and the separate sovereignty rights. We will not make concessions as regards our political equality and sovereignty'', Hasipoglu added.

In a statement to illegal TAK, he also assessed the meeting he had with British MP John Corrie who is an Europarliamentarian and Chairman of the EU Cyprus Commission.
