[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Denktash visit to Turkey linked to ``Coalition'' searchAccording to AVRUPA (9.12.98) after the ``elections'', from which the National Unity Party (UBP) emermged withy 24 ``deputies'', the ``coalition'' talks assumed a rapid pace. Even as UBP leader Dervis Eroglu favours a ``coalition'' with the Communal Liberation Party (TKP), it is not yet clear if UBPīs eventual partner would be the TKP or the Democratic Party (DP).Reliable political circles are saying that this issue would be finally decided upon in Ankara and that Ankara will have the final say. It is also being claimed that the visit to be paid to Ankara by Rauf Denktash is linked with efforts to form a ``government'' in the pseudostate. An announcement said that Denktash would go to Ankara for a medical treatment and unergo an eye operation at the Gulhane Military Medical Academy on Friday (11 December). Denktash, who is to fly to Ankara in Turkish President Suleyman Demirelīs private plane, would reportedly press for the DPīs coalition partnership. [02] Denktash meets with party leadersAccording to Anatolia Agency (12:18 hours, 9.12.98), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has met with the leaders of the parties that will be represented in the new so-called assembly in the wake of the ``general elections'' held on 6 December.Denktash first met with Dervis Eroglu, National Unity Party (UBP) leader and ``prime minister''. He later met with Serdar Denktash, Democratic Party leader and ``deputy prime minister'', Mustafa Akinci, leader of the Communal Liberation Party (TKP); and Mehmet Ali Talat, lelader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP). Speaking at the meetings, Denktash said that the pseudostate is going through a critical stage from the viewpoint of its ``national cause''. In a statement before his meeting with Denktash, Serdar Denktash said that press reports to the effect that ``he would not form a coalition with the UBP were unfounded'', that he could not make a decision on the isue, and that the pertinent decision would be reached at the party councils. Akinci said that the TKP is ready to participate in any ``government'' formula, adding that they have not yet held any talks on the issue. Talat said that the CTP respects the peopleīs will, adding that the people want to see the UBP as the ``government'' and the CTP as the opposition. [03] UDP objects to ``election'' resultsAccording to Anatoila Agency (12:39 hours, 9.12.98) the National Revival Party (UDP), which could not cross the 5 percent threshold in the 6 December ``elections'' and which, as a result, could not enter the so- called assemblhy, has objected to the ``election'' results.UDP Seceretary General Cavit Adalar, in a written statement, said that the high number of canceled votes adversely affected is party, adding that it could be observed that significant mistakes were corrected in ballot boxes whose voting slips were countned for a second time following requests. Adalar said that if a single vote is corrected in each box then his party will cross the threshold, adding that the UDP has applied to the so-called district election council with a request for a second count. According to the ``election'' results, the UDP received 4.57 percent of the overall votes.
