[01] Turkish Cypriot party leader admits existence of PKK members in the occupied area who received "citizenship"

YENI DEMOKRAT (14.11.96) expresses concern over the fact that Nationalist Justice Party leader Zorlu Tore in an open complaint to Ataturk, as he describes it, admits that Kurds who are members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) are given "TRNC citizenship".

YENI DEMOKRAT goes on and says: "Exploiting Turkish Cypriot nationalism, Zorlu Tore has declared that bloodshedding PKK members are in the TRNC and have been given TRNC citizenship".

It accuses Tore of sowing the seeds of division among the people living in the occupied area as well as "providing food for the Greek Cypriots".

"He is making statements that will put the TRNC into a difficult situation before the Greek Cypriots and the world", declares YENI DEMOKRAT. (MY)

[02] Denktash's wife applies for naturalization in Turkey

According to ORTAM (14.11.96) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's wife, Aydin Denktash, has applied to Turkey for naturalization.

ORTAM reports that Denktash's wife has joined the caravan of those who, dissillusioned from the "TRNC", are looking for a new citizenship.

Quoting the mainland newspaper HURRIYET, ORTAM reports that Mrs Aydin Denktash has officially applied for naturalization.

"Following the granddaughter of the Ottoman Sultan Murat, Kenize Murat, who applied for naturalization, TRNC President Rauf Denktash's wife Aydin Denktash's application for naturalization has become a problem.

Mrs Aydin Denktash, who submitted her application at the beginning of this year, after eleven months is still waiting for an answer.

Mrs Denktash was issued a temporary residence permit for Istanbul. Until now there has been no news regarding the application, which was sent by the Foreign Ministry to the Interior Ministry. For Mrs Denktash to become naturalized, her application should first be approved by the Interior Ministry and then Council of Ministers decision should be taken", reports the paper. (MY)
