This is the 14th successive year Radiomarathon is organized by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation and the Laiki Group, one of Cyprus' biggest financial corporations.

The charity is being aired by CyBC's third Radio channel while television will broadcast special programmes.

A total of 55 kiosks have been set out throughout towns and 12 cars are passing by communities to collect contributions.

Runner Yiannis Kouros and cyclist Michalis Agrotis continue their efforts while members of the Cyclists and Motorcylests federations as well as volunteers began a march.

Radiomarathon ends at midnight tomorrow night.

    [03] PAPADOPOULOS RADIO

Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos described "radiomarathon" as the uppermost charity event and appealed to the public to generously contribute.

He also assured that both he and government will strive to make the lives of people with special needs more comfortable and help them become active citizens of the society.

    [04] CHRISTOFIAS PARTIES

House President Demetris Christofias described "Radiomarathon" a celebration of solidarity, stressing that the society should implement a complete policy for children with special needs.

The charity event was also welcomed by all political party leaders or representatives who called on the public to make generous contributions.

    [05] ALONEF/KIKIS

CyBC chairman, Andreas Aloneftis said CyBC is once again the protagonist of this year's Radiomarathon, since it has mobilised not only its resources but all its manforce.

He said the message is one of love and contribution.

Chairman of the Popular Bank, Kikis Lazarides, said that during the last 13 years a total of 13 million pounds have been collected for children with special needs.

Russia has been making efforts towards Ankara advising on the need to solve the Cyprus problem based on Un resolutions.

A high diplomatic source at the Russian Foreign Ministry told CNA that through contacts with Turkish officials, Moscow is stressing that a solution to the Cyprus problem will not only be to the benefit of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots but also to Turkey.

The sams source said negotiations should start on the basis of the Annan plan.

    [07] ERDOGAN

The Turkish Cypriot press is extensively reporting about Turkey's Prime Minister Tayip Erdogan's scheduled illegal visit to the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus for the events marking the unilateral declaration of the illegal state on November 15.

Mr. Erdogan will remain in the occupied areas for one day and will meet Rauf Denktash as well as the leaders of the Turkish cypriot parties, in an effort to send themessage that he will cooperate with whoever wins the so called elections.

    [08] DENKTASH

Efforts by Turkish cypriot leader Rauf Denktash to transfer his pre-election campaign to Turkey hs been strongly criticised by the Turkish Cypriot press.

"Ortam" wrote that Mr. Denktash is touring Turkey to mobilise the state in an effort to create obstacles to efforts leading to a Cyprus settlement.

During lectures and speeches, Mr. Denktash is concentrating on attacking the UN peace plan and the European Union.

"Kibris" once again reported that a number of people have been "employed" at the so called "civil service" in an effort to secure votes. Recently, around one and a half thousand people have been appointed at so called "semi-government" organisations, including Bayrak radio station.

    [09] IRAQ

    - At least four Iraqi civilians including an 11-year-old boy were killed in fresh bloodshed in Iraq in the wake of the deadliest single strike on U.S. forces since they invaded to oust Saddam Hussein.

Eighteen Americans died in guerrilla attacks in Iraq yesterday, including 15 soldiers killed when insurgents shot down their giant Chinook helicopter near the flashpoint town of Falluja. A further 21 were wounded.

Early today, 18 of the wounded arrived at the U.S. Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. An army spokeswoman in Baghdad said some would be treated at Landstuhl Hospital near the base.

Yesterday was the second deadliest day overall for Americans in Iraq since the war started on March 20, after 28 soldiers were killed in various attacks on March 23. At least 250 U.S. soldiers have died from hostile fire since the invasion.

Besides the dead on board the helicopter, one U.S. soldier was killed yesterday in a bomb attack in Baghdad and two American civilian contractors died in a roadside mine blast in Falluja, 50 km west of Baghdad.

President George Bush has vowed the United States will not retreat, and continues to cite his Iraq policy as an accomplishment despite accusations of a widening "credibility gap".

    [10] MIDEAST

    - A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in the West Bank near Israeli forces today, killing himself but causing no other casualties.

Officials said soldiers entered the village of Azoun near the city of Qalqilya following intelligence information that a Palestinian suicide bomber there was seeking to carry out an attack in Israel.

Earlier, Israeli police set up checkpoints on roads outside Israeli cities near Qalqilya, acting on information a suicide attack was imminent.

    [11] INDONESIA FLOODS

At least 67 people, including tourists from Germany, Austria and Singapore, were killed today in flash floods which swept through a national park on Indonesia's Sumatra island.

Most of the bodies were found on the banks of the Bahorok River which runs through the Gunung Leuser National Park.

Three foreigners killed -- a 20-year-old German woman, a 67-year-old Singaporean man and a 40-year old Austrian woman. Other officials had said five foreigners had died.

    [12] NIGERIA FIGHTING

    - Fresh fighting has broken out between government forces and Liberia's smaller rebel group in the north of the West African nation.

"This fighting has led to the burning of towns and homes in areas like Gray, Zuatuo and other towns," an official, who declined to be named, said. He said the situation is very serious and the UN have been informed.

The official said the fighting involved government forces and rebels of the Movement for Democracy in Liberia (MODEL).

The reports of the fighting deal a blow to a fledgling peace process aimed at drawing a line under 14 years of war in a nation founded more than 150 years ago by freed American slaves.

It also highlights the challenges of bringing peace to the country's lawless interior, where armed fighters with a record of murder, rape and pillage roam far from United Nations peacekeepers deployed in the coastal capital Monrovia.
