[01] House President visits military facilities

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr. Demetris Christofias, visited, at the beginning of this week, military facilities in Nicosia and conveyed Christmas greetings to the soldiers.

Mr. Christofias told soldiers that the State was making sure that their military service was as pleasant as possible, and called upon them to view their service in a spirit of patriotism, free of stress.

The House President took the opportunity of his visit to extend the greetings to the leadership and all members of the National Guard.

He pledged to make every effort towards the attainment of a peaceful reunification of Cyprus, so that Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots could coexist in harmony and create a common future within the structures of the European Union.

He also voiced hope that the Turkish leadership would reassess its partitionist philosophy and intransigent stance, in order to make room for a substantive dialogue to take place, on the basis of the UN peace plan, with a view at reaching a viable and functioning solution of the Cyprus problem.
