Present at the talks were the members of each side's delegation.The regular meetings between the President and Mr Denktash are taking place under the aegis of the United Nations in the framework of direct talks for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. [02] House President: the Turkish side must abandon its insistence on the creation of two states in CyprusThe President of the House of Representatives Mr Demetris Christofias received yesterday Baroness Harris of Richmond, Member of the House of Lords and the former British Member of Parliament Mr Hugh Dykes, who arrived in Cyprus last Sunday.During the meeting the House President briefed the Baroness and Mr Dykes on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and in particular on the UN- led direct talks. Mr Christofias referred to the need to exert pressure on the Turkish side to abandon its intransigence and its unacceptable insistence on the creation of two states in Cyprus. He stressed that a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem can only be based on the relevant United Nations resolutions and the High Level Agreements, which provide for a bizonal, bicommunal federation. An exchange of views followed on Cyprus' European Union course and the advantages of accession for the whole Cypriot population and especially for the Turkish Cypriot community. Finally the House President and his quests discussed issues relating to rapprochement between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots.
