[01] Cyprus willing to contribute to the European Common Foreign and Security Policy

Cyprus Defence Minister Mr. Socrates Hasikos met yesterday in Brussels with the General Secretary of the Western European Union (WEU) and EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Mr. Javier Solana.

During their meeting Mr. Hasikos discussed with Mr. Solana Cyprus' role in the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and expressed Cyprus' willingness to participate in the CFSP as an EU candidate country both with its infrastructure, through facilities provided at the Republic's ports and airports and with its human resources.

Mr. Hasikos also briefed Mr. Solana on developments in the Cyprus problem and the situation created in Strovilia after the recent forward movement of the Turkish troops and handed the EU official all necessary documents regarding the new Turkish provocations.
