[02] Foreign diplomats present credentials

The President of the Republic Mr. Glafcos Clerides received yesterday the credentials of the new High Commissioner of Australia Franz Johann Ingruber and of the first Moroccan Ambassador to Cyprus Mr. Nouredine Sefiani. Presenting his credentials Mr. Ingruber stressed his country's support to "the UN Secretary-General's efforts, aided by the US, the United Kingdom, the European Union and a number of other countries to find a just and viable solution/ to the Cyprus problem."

He noted that "a settlement of the dispute is long overdue" and that "like the rest of the international community, we strongly hope that the forthcoming third round of UN-led proximity talks will be able to make substantive progress".

Morocco's Ambassador to Cyprus Mr. Sefiani said that his appointment to Cyprus expresses the ambition of the Moroccan government "to give a new impetus to our relations in all areas especially in those where there is a room for further improvement like trade, business, tourism, cultural affairs and human exchanges".

He expressed Morocco's great admiration for the achievements of Cyprus in many fields as a very dynamic and performing economy and stressed his country's profound respect and friendship for the Cypriot people.
