Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mr. Vladimir Rakhmanin stated yesterday during his daily briefing that his country hopes that UN-led proximity talks on Cyprus due to start on December 3 will be the starting point of a sustained and efficient negotiating process conducive to the resolution of this long-standing problem.

Mr. Rakhmanin also said that Russia has always supported a just and permanent solution to the Cyprus problem that will safeguard the interests of all Cypriots as well as the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Republic.
