    "The President will deal directly with the situation in Cyprus on this trip. Its an important part of the agenda, an important part of the trip," White House Spokesman Joe Lockhart stated yesterday, during his daily briefing in relation to President Clinton's state visit to Greece.

    Commenting on the possibility of Secretary of State Madeleine Albright travelling to Greece prior to President Clinton's visit, to discuss with the Greek government the prospect for a trilateral meeting between US Greece and Turkey for a package deal solution on Cyprus and the Aegean issues, the spokesman said, "Secretary Albright will not be travelling in advance".

    President Glafcos Clerides received at separate formal ceremonies at the Presidential Palace yesterday, the credentials of the new Ambassadors of Egypt and Rwanda.

    Presenting his credentials the new Ambassador of Egypt Mr Omar Metwally expressed the hope for a successful outcome of the current efforts undertaken by the international community and the UN Secretary General for a just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem.

    The new Ambassador of Rwanda Mr Gerald Zirimwabagabo said he will work towards the completion of a bilateral cooperation agreement to boost relations between the two countries, adding that his country will benefit from Cyprus' experience in many sectors, including industry, tourism and banking.
