[01] Statement by Government Spokesman on the Kurdish leader's arrest

"The Cyprus Government expresses its solidarity with Greece with regard to the occupation of the Greek diplomatic Missions in Europe.

It considers that such actions do not serve any cause and hopes that these will soon come to an end without creating any further problems," Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides stated this morning.

[02] Russian and US positions converge on Cyprus settlement

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Vladimir Rakhmanin said that a "sincere and deep exchange of views on the situation in Cyprus proves the coincidence of Russian and US positions on the solution of this international problem".

Speaking at a press briefing last Thursday, Mr. Rakhmanin said that after consultations held last week between Russia's special envoy on Cyprus Vladimir Chizhov and US State Department's Coordinator on Cyprus Thomas Miller, the two sides confirmed the need to continue efforts to settle the conflict in Cyprus under the UN auspices and in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions and inter - Cypriot agreements signed in 1977 and 1979.
