[01] Irish officials commend Cyprus' will to resolve the Cyprus problem

The Presidents of the Irish House of Representatives and Senate Messrs Seamus Pattison and Brian Mullooly had yesterday separate meetings with the President of the Republic Mr. Glafcos Clerides and the Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Christodoulos Christodoulou .

Speaking to the press after their meeting with President Clerides, the Irish officials said that they were briefed on the latest developments in Cyprus' accession course to the EU and the Cyprus problem.

Mr. Pattison also noted that having in mind the Irish peace process, he would suggest patience, determination and adherence to finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. Mr Pattison pointed out that the "basis of the settlement in Ireland has been the decision of the people to resolve the problem by peaceful means" adding that he had spotted the same "genuine wish to resolve the problem here in Cyprus".

Moreover the two officials commended President Clerides for his untiring efforts towards a solution to the Cyprus issue.
