[01] Health agreement to be signed with Israel

Israel's Minister of Health, Joshua Matza, arrived in Cyprus yesterday for a four-day visit.

He will today sign an agreement on co-operation in the fields of health and medicine with his Cypriot counterpart Christos Solomis.

The plan is aimed at enhancing all areas of medical co-operation between the two countries.

Speaking on arrival, Mr Matza stressed the strong friendship ties that exist between Israel and Cyprus adding that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen these even more. He said that an official invitation would be extended to Mr Solomis to visit Israel.

Replying to questions, the Israeli Health Minister said Cypriot patients would continue to be treated in Israel and that this issue would be included in the agreement to be signed.

On his part, Mr Solomis said there existed an inter-state agreement and a common development programme on issues which could be further developed.

These developments, he added, could include co-operation on issues such as medical scholarships and the training of nursing staff.

[02] Cyprus issue on draft agenda of UN General Assembly

The President of the UN Geneal Assembly has announced that the Cyprus problem is on the draft agenda of the Assembly's 53rd session.

The Cyprus problem had been on the agenda of the 52nd Session but it was decided that consideration of it should be deferred.
