[01] Foreign Minister leaves for Lisbon, Athens and Durban

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will be travelling to Lisbon today to visit the 1998 EXPO exhibition. Mr Kasoulides will attend celebrations on the occasion of Cyprus Day at the Cyprus pavilion on 25 August.

On Wednesday evening the Foreign Minister will travel to Athens to accompany Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides at meetings with the Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis.

Mr Kasoulides will leave Athens on 27 August for Durban, South Africa, where he will attend the Non-Aligned Summit.

[02] 15th Conference of Overseas Cypriots POMAK and PSEKA begins in Nicosia

The 15th conference of the Central Councils of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK) and the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) began in Nicosia this morning.

The Congress, which will last until the 27th August, will deal with various issues relating to overseas Cypriots, the role of second and third generation Cypriots living abroad and its contribution in promoting issues and solving problems that affect Hellenism as well as other issues affecting overseas Cypriots as the 21st century approaches.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will address the conference and will brief delegates on recent political developments in the Cyprus problem.

The Congress will be addressed, among others, by British Members of the House of Commons, by Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides, Cyprus political party leaders, the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Overseas Greeks, Vasilis Niotis MP , the President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Andrew Athens, and the Director of the Press and Information office.
