[01] Richard Holbrooke in Cyprus next week

US Presidential Emissary on Cyprus, Richard Holbrooke, will be in Cyprus on 10 and 11 November to conduct talks with President Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.

A statement issued by the US State Department Spokesman James Rubin yesterday says the following:

"Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke, the President's Special Presidential Emissary, accompanied by Special Coordinator for Cyprus, Thomas J. Miller, will be travelling to Cyprus Monday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 11 for meetings with leaders of the two communities on Cyprus, including a joint meeting of the two leaders and Ambassador Holbrooke".

[02] President Clerides pleased with work of outgoing DIKO ministerw

Following yesterday's resignation of the five Democratic Party (DIKO) ministers from the coalition DISY-DIKO government, President Clerides, who received the five Cabinet members at the Presidential Palace, said that he was pleased with the cooperation he has had with them.

The President asked the five ministers (interior, defence, commerce, agriculture and labour) to remain in office for a few more days and attend the press conference he is giving tonight to outline the work done by his government up to now. New Cabinet members are expected to be appointed next week.

Speaking on behalf of all outgoing DIKO Cabinet members, Minister of Interior Dinos Michaelides, thanked President Clerides for the trust placed in them all these years.

[03] Cyprus' first ambassador to Ireland presents credentials

Andreas Mavroyiannis, Cyprus' first Ambassador to Ireland, presented his credentials yesterday to a three-member presidential committee presiding the country, till the newly elected President Mary McAleese takes office.
