[03] NATO's possible involvement in CyprusNATO could be involved in Cyprus' security at some point in the future, said NATO General-Secretary, Jarier Solana.Speaking on Tuesday at Columbia University, in the US, Solana expressed the hope for a solution of the Cyprus problem in 1998. Solana said that NATO is always willing to help this long standing problem which affects the relations between Greece and Turkey, even though it does not plan to undertake a specific role in efforts for a Cyprus settlement at this point. The General-Secretary of NATO did not, however, rule out the possibility of future involvement, of the Organisation, in Cyprus. [04] Bomb attack in JerusalemCyprus expresses sympathy to the Government and the people of Israel after the terrorist bomb attack against civilians. An official statement released on Wednesday reads as follows:Cyprus is appalled by today's indiscriminate terrorist bomb attack against civilians in Jerusalem which resulted in the loss of so many innocent lives. Such condemned acts can never be justified to support any cause. They certainly undermine the objective of all the parties concerned and aim at putting in jeopardy the peace process. We are confident that his abhorrent act will not deter the protagonists from their efforts to reinvigorate the peace process in the Middle East and to surmount the hurdles that were put on its way. We express our sympathy to the Government and the people of Israel and our profound grief to the families of the victims.
