"Let me say that 1997 becomes the year of opportunity for Cyprus. There are all the elements in the air and I am personally convinced that there is a way to find a solution and to have Cyprus as a member of the European Union, " he added. [02] Duma President on Cyprus visitThe President of the Russian Duma, Gennadi Seleznev, heading a parliamentary delegation, arrives today in Cyprus for a two day official visit. He will be received by President Glafcos Clerides and House President Spyros Kyprianou.Following talks between the Cypriot and the Russian delegations, Kyprianou and Seleznev will sign a cooperation protocol. The Russian delegation will also visit the Green Line, accompanied by Nicosia Mayor Lellos Demetriades. Mr Seleznev will also meet parliamentary party leaders and give a joint press conference with Mr Kyprianou. The President of the Russian Duma will leave Cyprus tomorrow after meeting Foreign Minister Alecos Michaelides and members of the local press. [03] Foundation stone laid at new stadiumThe foundation stone of Nicosia's new Pancypria Athletic Club (GSP) stadium was laid by President Glafcos Clerides in a joint ceremony with Archbishop Chrysostomos this week.The new stadium, currently under construction, is located near the Nicosia- Limassol highway on the outskirts of Nicosia. The new facilities will be ready for use by 1998. The first phase of the stadium will cost 7 million Cyprus pounds and it will satisfy the sports needs of Nicosia. "It will equal the best of European stadiums", President Clerides said, adding that the adjoining track and field stadium, will be designated as the federal track and field stadium of the island.
