  • [01] "Columba-Hypatia: Astronomy for Peace" project launched

    The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) and the Home for Cooperation (H4C), in collaboration with the science education initiative GalileoMobile, have announced the launch of the "Columba-Hypatia: Astronomy for Peace" project.

    According to an announcement issued on Tuesday, more than 150 people attended the ‘Open Astronomy Night' on Thursday 20th October, and more than 25 children participated in specially tailored sessions about Astronomy on Saturday 22nd October. Both events, which were organized within the larger umbrella of the educational ‘IMAGINE' program, had great participation.

    Five Board members were re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus at the Annual General Meeting of the shareholders held on Tuesday at the bank`s headquarters in Nicosia.

    The five members are Maksim Goldman, Michael Spanos, Arne Berggren, Michael Heger and Lyn Grobler.

    As Chairman of the Board of Directors,Josef Ackermann said in his speech at the meeting that Maksim Goldman is a US and Russian national and a US-trained lawyer and serves also as Director of Strategic Projects of Renova, a Swiss-based major financial firm.

    [04] European Commission greenlights 3 more months of Schengen border controls

    The European Commission green lighted today three more months of Schengen border controls at 5 specific passings, namely: in Austria at the Austrian-Hungarian and Austrian-Slovenian land borders, in Germany at the German-Austrian land border, in Denmark in Danish ports with ferry connections to Germany and at the Danish-German land border, in Sweden in Swedish harbors in the Police Region South and West and at the Öresund bridge, and in Norway in Norwegian ports with ferry connections to Denmark, Germany and Sweden.

    Despite a progressive stabilization of the situation, the Commission considers that the conditions of the "Back to Schengen" Roadmap allowing for a return to a normally functioning Schengen area are not yet fully fulfilled.
