[01] French FM: Paris supports a Cyprus solution based on the EU acquis and UN decisions

France has always supported a solution to the Cyprus issue that is based on European principles and international decisions, stated French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Marc Ayrault after talks on Tuesday in Nicosia with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides.

Speaking in French through an interpreter, Ayrault assured of France`s support for a reunified Cyprus, without anachronistic divisions and said that a solution depends on Cypriots.

On his part, Kasoulides said Cyprus appreciates the cooperation with the French government and especially its traditional support and interest as a permanent member of the Security Council in the efforts for a solution to the Cyprus issue.

Two European Union Commissioners, Pierre Moscovici is European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, and Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue and Vice-President of the European Commission, have asked Cyprus Finance Minister Harris Georgiades to explain his views with regard to the medium term objective of a balanced budget in structural terms in 2017.

"A preliminary assessment of the DBP suggests that Cyprus plans to depart significantly from its medium term objective (MTO) of a balanced budget in structural terms in 2017. The structural balance is expected to deteriorate by 1.
