[02] House of Commons leader describes UK-Cyprus Joint Communiqué as important

House of Commons Leader Andrew Lansley has described a Joint Communiqué by Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and British Prime Minister David Cameron, issued after their meeting in London on Wednesday, as important, adding that the meeting of the two leaders was very welcome.

"I hope that as a result, there will be opportunities for my ministerial colleagues in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to set out further details relating to this matter," Lansley said, replying to a question by Conservative MP David Burrowes during a parliament debate.

Burrowes had asked Lansley to make a statement following the visit of the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades to London, which resulted in a significant =Joint Communiqué that reaffirmed the active commitment of the Prime Minister and the President to a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem..

[03] Minister says aviation will contribute to Cyprus' economic development

Aviation will be a major contributor in the redevelopment of the Cypriot economy, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos noted on Friday, addressing the joint meeting of the Advisory Committee and the Executive Board of the Flight Safety Foundation - Mediterranean, in Nicosia.

However, the Minister noted the continuous interference of the illegal station in the occupied area of Cyprus, which undermines the safety of flights within the Nicosia FIR and the persistent attitude of Turkey not to recognize the services offered by the Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation.

Earlier the Director General of Eurocontrol Joe Sultana and the Minister concluded a charter providing that the Eurocontrol will offer assistance for the reorganization of the Department, namely for the establishement of an independent entity responsible for the provision of Air Navigation Services, Mitsopoulos said in his address.
