[01] Identifications of missing persons' remains to exceed 100 in 2013
More than one hundred identifications of remains belonging to missing
persons of the Cyprus tragedy will be carried out in 2013, whereas remains
estimated to belong to some 1000 missing persons have been found, said
Aristos Aristotelous, the GreekCypriot member of the Committee on Missing
Persons (CMP).
The number of identifications is likely to approach 140 this year,
compared to the average of 56 identifications carried out in the previous
years, Aristotelous said speaking after a meeting on Friday with the
President of the Socialist Movement Giannakis Omirou.
However he added that neither the Greek Cypriot side, nor the CMP can
be satisfied from the results unless the fate of each and every missing
person has been established. "We have a long way to go" Aristotelous
noted. President of the Socialist Movement EDEK underlined that Turkey
has to agree to provide all relevant information and allow access to the
records of the Turkish military and investigations in all areas where
missing persons are said to have been buried.
