  • [01] EIB President arrives in Cyprus on Wednesday

President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Werner Hoyer arrives on Wednesday in Cyprus for an official visit. According to CNA sources, Hoyer is set to meet with Cyprus Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades on Thursday.

This meeting will be followed by the signing of an agreement for an additional loan of €100 million to the Republic of Cyprus and a press conference by Georgiades and Hoyer. Later on Hoyer is scheduled to have a meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Nicos Anastasiades. His departure from Cyprus is planned for Thursday evening.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved in late April an additional loan of €100 million for the Republic of Cyprus to support schemes for sustainable growth, competitiveness and human capital. The new loan will support Cyprus` National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), which is focusing on sustainable growth, competitiveness and human capital.

[02] Results of identification process of remains of missing in Cyprus "very encouraging", says CMP member

The Greek Cypriot member of the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) Aristos Aristotelous has described as "very encouraging" the results so far of the CMP identification programme of remains of missing persons in Cyprus.

In a statement to CNA, Aristotelous said 60 cases of missing persons have been identified in the first four months of 2013, while a further six identifications have been completed in May, raising the total number of identifications to 66, ten more compared with the average of annual identifications in the period of 2006 - 2012.

This result, he noted, is clearly higher than the 23 identifications in 2012 and 51 in 2011. "The total number of identifications has risen to 407 from 337 at the end of 2012, of which 83% or 333 were Greek Cypriots and 17% which corresponds to 17 identifications were Turkish Cypriots," Aristotelous added.
